“What’s the other guy look like?”

“Woman and about the same.”

His eyebrows lifted. “You got your ass handed to you by a woman?”

“Go fuck yourself.”

“I’m good, thanks. What else do you know?”

“We need to talk to her, where is she?”

“I haven’t spoken to her all day. I sent her a message when you called, but zilch in return. What’s going on?”

“These drug people named her, specifically, Davin. I don’t know more than that which I can divulge to you. They are going to pull her from base and ask her questions.”

There went that protective streak once more.

“I’ve already told them I want to be there. Hopefully seeing my face will make this a bit easier for her. How much do you know about her?”

“Are you fucking kidding me?”

“I’m just asking, Dav.”

“You wanted me to chase her. You wanted me to let go of the past and now you’re thinking she has some kind of connection to a drug supplier? Fuck you, Tav. Fucking fuck you!”

He whipped around to head inside and reacted with the touch that came seconds later. His fist connected with his twin’s face as the uncontrollable growl erupted from his throat.

Tavin went down but brought him with, retaliating with a few hits of his own. Each held their own and when they rolled off the deck into the yard, they split apart.

Breathing hard, he got up and glared at his brother. “Go to hell.” Then he stomped inside and right out to his Jeep.

He needed to see her.

The sunset made the road a golden orangey color and he slipped his sunglasses on before he even got off the base. Pointing the hood of his Jeep toward her place, he pushed the speed limit. Wanting to ignore it, he held himself in check because if he got a ticket it would only prolong him getting to her and seeing how she was doing.

An accident prolonged his arrival and he was full of nervous energy by the time he pulled into her apartment complex. He hopped out right away and jogged up to the third floor and knocked on the door.

Nothing.

He swore and pressed the doorbell.

Still nothing.

All he could think about was his twin’s words about how these drug people were gunning for her. What if she was hurt somewhere and needed him?

He flexed his fists and braced them against the door. Deep breaths.

Closing his eyes, he pushed the doorbell once more. Biting back a litany of curses, he spun on his heels and headed to the stairs outside heading back down to the ground level.

“Davin?”

Commander Bly whipped around and exhaled gratefully as he spied her standing in the doorway. “Holy fuck baby, you scared me.”

He hurried to her side and didn’t give her a chance to say a word, just pulled her tight to him and kissed her. Slanted his mouth over hers and took what he needed to calm his soul. Ease the nerves within him that had been overly stimulated and agitated.

Forehead to forehead when he ended the kiss, she gave him a shaky smile.

“Hi.”

Her soft word had a smile turning up the corners of his mouth. “Hi,” he whispered, thumbing along the corner of her lips.

She stepped back and he walked in, pleased to once again be in her place. With her. Neha had just taken a shower, he could see that now and all of it explained why there had been no response to his call, knocking or ringing of the bell.

“You look stressed. Is everything okay?”

He watched her as she filled the stainless steel teapot that had flowers on the outside and set it on the stovetop before turning on the burner.

“No. Are you okay?”

She shrugged. “Long day, getting ready for a deployment, you know how it is.”

His gut dropped to his feet. Deployment. Six months of her gone without any contact. Yeah, not at all what he wanted to think about.

Neha pointed at her eye and cocked an eyebrow. “What happened?”

He touched it without wincing. “Tav.”

“Brotherly dispute?”

“You know how it is.”

Her expression shuttered. “No, not really.”

He pushed away from where he leaned against the counter. A counter he’d fucked her on and eaten her out.

Focus! Reaching over her, he pulled down her mug of Nessie and placed it before her then grabbed the tea he knew she had. A grapefruit and mint tea. Brushing his lips along the exposed skin of her neck, he smiled over the light shudder.

“I have to talk to you about something, Neha.”

“Sounds serious.”

She didn’t look in his direction and for the moment he was okay with that. Right now, he had to figure out a way to get through asking her questions without sounding like the asshole his brother had. When he mentioned it to Davin.

“It is.”

Neha fixed her tea and walked to the fridge and grabbed him a beer. She held it up without a word and brought it to him when he nodded. He opened it and took two healthy swallows while she carried her tea to the table and sat. One leg up with her foot resting on the chair beside her, she watched him with unblinking eyes as she wrapped her hands around the mug.
