“You’re up to something and while I don’t know what it is yet, I’m sure I’m busy on that day or I will be out to sea.”
Cindy pushed up on her toes and bent over the railing. There went more men losing their concentration.
Her friend angled her head so she could see her, even as she continued hanging over the edge like a child. “You know when I tell you I love you, you’re supposed to say it back. That’s only nice and proper.”
She made the motion of zipping her lips and tossing the key.
Cindy rolled her eyes as she stood straight once more. She tossed her head, making her hair rise and fall like a goddamn slow-motion commercial for some product. “It’s for Renny.”
And Cindy had her, hook, line, and sinker. Bitch knew it too for her smirk turned evil.
“Okay you evil heifer. What’s this going to cost me? I have to warn you, I don’t have a lot of my soul left.”
“Neha?”
That deep voice was one she’d not heard since the shooting range. Potent as all get out but still not as bad on her system as the one belonging to his twin. She gazed to her right and saw Tavin walking up, casually dressed and where the surrounding men had been ogling Cindy, the women were doing to Tavin.
Taking a brief moment to push up Cindy’s jaw with her index finger, she smiled at the approaching SWAT officer.
“Sergeant Bly.”
He waggled a finger at her. “Now now. We’re on a first name basis. Come on, say my name.” The last bit rolled from his mouth in what she would firmly believe to be a bedroom voice, destined to make his companion crave him all the more. Damn if it wouldn’t have affected her, if she’d not met his brother.
Grateful for her darker complexion, she laughed at him. “Tavin.”
He gave a fake swoon and she laughed harder. “Tavin Bly, meet one of my best friends in the world. Cindy Urban. Cindy, Sergeant Tavin Bly.”
“Ma’am,” he said with an easy smile as he offered his hand.
One perfectly manicured hand clasped at her heart. “Good lord where did you find him, Neha? And do they have more?”
“I am a twin.”
“The good looking one,” Neha added with an additional spurt of laughter.
“So glad you recognize that,” Tavin replied without hesitation.
Cindy walked around him, sucking on the spoon from her yogurt. “Can I join the Navy?”
“He’s not Navy, Cindy and stop making him uncomfortable.” She hauled her friend up to her side.
“Then where did you meet him? And why didn’t you tell us about him?”
“Us?” Tavin questioned one brown brow rising. “Who’s us?”
“Yes, us,” Cindy continued. “Her besties. Me, Sugar, and Renny. We all look out for each other and will hurt anyone who harms her.”
Praying for patience, she cleared her throat. “He’s SWAT, Cindy. Probably shouldn’t be threatening him.”
Her eyes lit up. “That means you have cuffs.”
Neha held up a hand. “Let me interject here or this conversation is going to get weird. It was great seeing you again, Tavin. We have to run though. Bye.” Cindy’s arm firmly in her grasp, she half dragged, half yanked her friend off. She refused to look over her shoulder but there wasn’t a single shred of doubt in her mind that Tavin watched her and Cindy depart.
“But I didn’t get his number and I still don’t know where you met him.”
“I met him at the shooting range. Come on, Cindy. Focus please. Not on the man, but on what you signed me up to do for Renny.”
Now her friend blushed. She sucked her lower lip into her mouth and Neha waited.
“Play the piano.”
Neha wanted to rail against her friend and tell her no way but she swallowed it back. Cindy’s big blue eyes had tears glistening in them as she waited for the harsh words. Forcing a smile, she squeezed Cindy’s hand.
“Okay. I’ll do it but Cindy. No more signing me up to do things without asking me first.”
“I know. I didn’t think about it until the woman there was talking about how good her son could play and I told her that you could beat anyone.”
Neha stood there, heart thundering in her ears, but all she did was wait until Cindy finished her yogurt.
Bless her heart, she was such a good person.
“Now come on, dinner is on me. I want to know all about hottie SWAT officer. Is he single? Where did you meet him?”
“I’ll tell you all of that and more, but I need you to tell me when this thing is for Renny.”
“Two Wednesdays from now.” She ducked her head. “And a Saturday.”
Holy moldy elephant balls. Two of them? I really need new friends.
“I will do my best to be there, I don’t know if I will have duty or not.”
“You’ll find a way. You always do.” Cindy looped her arm through Neha’s. “Hottie SWAT?”
