And while the biker was down there, force the fucker to lick her damn shoes in forgiveness.

His eyes met Sapphire’s as they both took a breath, then with the slightest tilt of her head, she walked away without committing murder.

She was a better person than him.

Saint stared at her ass as she went, making a show of licking his lips before he turned and shot Rez the biggest fucking smile.

Just as he thought, Saint was testing him to see how he’d react. To see if there was any connection between Sapphire and him.

Rez passed it, but barely.

No matter what, he would not forget this moment. He’d be sitting in the front row of the courtroom the day the Demon got what was coming to him.

And if Rez was the man who got to deliver it, even better.

“Just talked to Wolf. Wants you there tomorrow. Also, got work for you here, like that one said.”

That one.

Rez unclenched his jaws to ask, “What kind of work do you need done here?”

“That one’s gonna give you a list. You can deal with her since you two are so fuckin’ chummy.”

He would much rather deal with her than him.

“If you fix some of the shit ‘round here, maybe that fuckin’ bitch will stop naggin’ me.”

If that fucker only knew just how close he was to being force-fed the remaining teeth in his mouth. Rez pulled in a calming breath to ask, “Is this a barter deal?”

“Yeah.”

“No permission needed from your overlords first?”

Saint’s brow furrowed. “My what?”

Rez shook his head. “What do you want done first? The work at your clubhouse or the work that needs done here?”

“Both.”

He mentally sighed. “So, basically you want me to work ‘round the clock.”

“Got twenty-four fuckin’ hours in a day. Figure it out.”

Well look at that, the man could count past twenty. What a genius. His momma must be so damn proud.

“You got it. Gonna need the address of where this clubhouse of yours is located. Me and my partner will be there first thing in the morning to meet with Wolf.”

“Doubt he’ll be there but someone will.”

“Got a name of that person?”

“Nope.”

Great. “Are you going to have a problem if Sapphire takes the time tonight to show me the work that needs done here? I need to know what we’re dealing with and how to plan it.”

“Nope.”

“What’s the exchange rate?”

“Guess you’ll find that out once you finish the work and I fuckin’ pay you.”

That he would.

Now he needed to have a meeting with Crew and Nox.

Crew was going to be thrilled with this new turn of events.

Nox probably not so much.

Chapter Fourteen

Rez tugged the brim of his Pittsburgh Pirates ball cap lower in an effort to hide his face, then flipped up the collar on his leather jacket. He also slipped on leather gloves to cover his tattooed hands. With it being January, it was fucking cold enough to wear gloves, anyway.

Normally he’d don sunglasses along with the hat to help disguise his face, but since it was almost midnight, they would obstruct his vision.

He climbed out of his Durango Hellcat and quickly ducked into the covered exterior stairway that led to the third floor of The Plant.

He doubted the Demons were spying on them, but he didn’t want to risk getting made before he even had a chance to get a foot inside the MC’s Uniontown clubhouse. He also wanted to avoid getting banned from going into The Pit. He was damn sure that the MC wouldn’t open the door and invite him in if they discovered he wore a badge.

On his way through Rockvale after leaving the strip club, he drove past Sapphire’s apartment. Only to make sure everything there appeared copacetic since the woman would be working tonight until after the club closed. And, of course, he was not only concerned about her safety at her place of employment, but at her shitty complex.

Yes, he was putting his nose where it didn’t belong, but she didn’t need to know that.

He punched in the code on the new digital lockset Nox installed at the entrance to the task force’s rented space. He stepped inside to see those two already waiting for him.

“About fucking time,” Crew grumbled with a shake of his head.

“Aww. Is it past your bedtime, J. Crew?” Rez asked him. “You need your binky and blankie and someone to rock you to sleep?”

Rez glanced over to the wall of computers to see who was assigned to monitor “dirty talk” overnight. Someone was scheduled around the clock to listen to the wiretaps. And if possible, Crew had someone watching the live camera feeds from both The Peach Pit and the Wolf Den.

Tonight that second spot was empty, but he had no doubt Nox had been sitting there earlier.

While the rest of the world spent their evenings watching a movie or catching up on sitcoms, Nox was perfectly fine with watching the task force’s live feeds. Or skimming through the recorded footage.
