“Hi again,” Chase says, and I stare at both of them
“You two know each other?” I ask Ella and shakes her head
“No, we saw each other at the cemetery, though,” she tells me
“When?” I ask her
“The day I asked you to marry me,” she tells me, and Chase laughs, but stops grabbin’ his chest
“Sucked in fuckhead,” I tell him
“Come on, that’s a bit weird a chick askin’ the guy to get married.”
“Fuckhead any girl like my women asks you to marry her, you do what I did.”
“Oh yeah, and what’s that?”
“Rush her to the nearest priest and marry her right there and then.”
“Never gonna happen,” Chase says, and I shake my head as the doctor walks in and stops, looking at Chase than at me, he frowns stepping back
“Mr. Thomas, you have a broken third rib on the left and a broken nose.”
“Dammit is it crooked,” Chase asks him
“I can set it now and tape your ribs, you’ll have to rest for the next four to five weeks nothing strenuous.”
“That's it,” I ask the doctor
“You are”
“His brother,” he looks at my Cut “biological brother,” I tell him and he nods
“Your brother will be fine.”
“Fine, have you had a broken rib before because let me tell ya doc this is fuckin’ painful,” Chase says still holdin’ his chest
“Don’t be a pussy?” I tell him, and he gives me the finger as he says sits back, and I look at Ella as she bites her lip trying not to laugh
“See even my women’s trying not to laugh at you being a pussy,” I tell him and Ella losses it laughing hard and I pull her to me as the doctor steps forward
“I’ll need you to sit up so I can set your nose,” he groans sitting up, and the doctor resets his nose, and he screams like a bitch and Ella smiles
“FUCK DOC, JESUS!” he says
“Good as new.” Take these pain pills and if you have any problems come back and see us
“That's it?” he asks and the doctor nods
“Yep, you all have a good evening,” he tells us walkin’ out, and Chase stands up swayin’
“You good,” I ask him, and he nods as I pull Ella out the door and Chase follows behind us.
Chapter Forty-Six
Ella
When we got outside Chase got in the car with me while Blaze rode his bike
“So, I wanted to apologize for the other day,” Chase says, and I turn and look at him
“It's fine.”
“I’ve just been so alone for so long its hard, you know” I nod knowing exactly how that feels
“Chase, you’re not alone anymore, if you want Blaze and me in your life, we're here for you.”
“Thanks, so who were you at the cemetery, seeing?”
“My brother, he died a few months ago.”
“Heard about that, sorry.”
“Do you have any other family apart from Blaze?” I ask him, and he shakes his head
“Nope, mom died last year of cancer, and it’s been me.”
“Is that why you were taking the money?” he looks at me
“You know about that?”
“Yeah”
“Fuck, I did it to get money for mom’s hospital bills, but after she died it was so easy to get the money, and I still had to pay the hospital bill.”
“How much do you owe still?”
“About fifty-grand.”
“Wow”
“Tell me about it, I knew what I was doing, but it was for a good cause.”
“And what happens now Chase?” he looks in the mirror to Blaze behind us on his bike
“I asked if I could join the club,” he tells me, and I look at him again
“Is that what you want? I mean really want?”
“I use to watch them you know, whenever I saw them, but mom always told me to stay away.”
“Why didn’t you come to the club?”
“Mom said it was their fault dad was dead, she hated them”
“But you still had Blaze.”
“She told me he never wanted to see me.”
“Your mom said a lot.”
“Yeah, a lot of fuckin’ bullshit,” he says, looking out the window
“How do you know?”
“Razor showed me all the letters and money the club sent her over the years, and she sent it all back, I’m so fuckin pissed at her”
“I’m sure she did it for a reason.”
“Yeah, well me having to quit school and get a job was a shit reason, always struggling with money, she was a selfish bitch.”
“Hey, I know you're angry, but she was still your mom.”
“I don’t want to talk about this anymore,” he tells me I nod seeing the pain in his eyes at his mother's betrayal
“Ok”
“Just up here on the right,” he says, and I pull into a crappy apartment complex
“Is this where you live?” he nods
“Yeah, it’s just a bedsit complex, but it’s cheap” I look around at the broken-down drug den and cringe
“You really didn’t use any of the money you took did you?” he shakes his head as we get out and we hear people arguing dogs barking and babies crying
