Whatever it is, it’s big. And it’s coming this way.
It hesitates and then stops.
Did it see me? Is it looking here?
Its face is covered in shadows. I can’t see…
Lighting flashes through the sky. It lights up the forest in blue for a split second and I see a big scary grizzly bear staring at me.
It disappears into the shadows as the thunder hits my ears.
My body freezes. I can’t move as I begin to shake all over while staring in horror at the dark mass approaching.
I’ve written scenes like this in books where a character is so scared she can’t move, but I wasn’t sure if it happened in real life.
I’m sure now. I’m paralyzed by fear.
The grizzly bear steps into the road where a sliver of moonlight shines onto his face. His big brown eyes are locked on me.
My pulse races. I’m so vulnerable. There’s nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide.
I’m the easiest meal he’s ever had. I might as well be a Big Mac sitting in the road as far as he’s concerned.
Those huge paws sink into the mud as he stands there watching me, completely unfazed by the rain slamming into him.
Lighting flashes again, quickly followed by the deafening thunder. The bear doesn’t even flinch. He doesn’t react at all. All of his focus is on me.
His black lip curls up, giving me a glimpse of those sharp deadly teeth.
“Please don’t eat me, Mr. Bear,” I plead to him in a shaky voice. “I know I have a lot of meat on my bones, but I’m riddled with anxiety, so it’s not going to be tasty. It’s going to be bitter and full of dread.”
He lifts his huge head into the air and sniffs.
”No,” I whisper as my legs get all shaky. “I don’t smell nice. I’ve been sweating all day. You don’t want to eat me, I really need a shower.”
He whips his head to the side and lets out a sharp growl. Then, his whole body begins to tremble and shake violently.
What is happening?
My mouth drops as I watch the inexplicable happen.
The bear’s body sucks in like it’s imploding in on itself. His long brown fur retracts and is replaced with human skin. Those huge paws turn into human hands with human fingers. His ears disappear. His eyes shine like bright gold.
It happens so fast. In only a second or two.
With a loud tear, the bear is gone and a human male stands in its place.
A naked human male.
He runs his hand through his wet brown hair as he looks up at me.
My mouth drops.
Those glowing gold eyes fade back to a normal brown, but they’re not any less impressive. I can feel the heat and possession in them wrapping around me and drawing me in.
I feel pulled to him. I feel like I’m his.
He seems just as stunned. He’s standing in the rain—not even trying to cover himself—and staring at me in awe.
My brain is still not working by the way. It’s not comprehending any of this.
I start breathing heavily as my eyes begin to wander.
This man is a giant. He must be at least six-foot-I-have-no-idea. I’ve never been good with height. All I know is that I’d have to step on my tippy toes if I tried to kiss him. Maybe even a step stool.
His body is jacked. It’s all thick perfect muscle.
I have to get this guy on the cover of my next book. It’ll be an instant bestseller and I’ll have a line-up of people waiting for my autograph at my next book signing.
A flash of lightning illuminates him further. He looks good in blue.
My eyes continue down to the long thick cock hanging low between his thighs.
Even Antoine isn’t equipped like him. I didn’t think it would be believable.
My cheeks burn as I dart my eyes back up to his.
It’s not just his body that’s beautiful. His face is stunning. That strong jaw, the stubbled cheeks, his sexy lips… Goddamn!
His wavy wet brown hair is slicked back and he’s got the most intense brown eyes I’ve ever seen. They’re piercing through my essence and gripping my soul. I can barely breathe as I stare into them.
Another flash of lightning lights him up in blue for a split second.
I love that. He looks like a God all lit up by the elements.
Say something!
The seconds tick away and we’re still staring at one another in stunned silence.
Say anything. Now!
“Hi,” I say with a ridiculous wave.
He licks his lips and I nearly moan. “Hello.”
God, his voice is so sexy. It’s got this deep purring moaning quality to it. It’s almost like I can feel it tingling through my body.
“You’re a shifter?”
He nods slowly.
His eyes travel up and down my body with so much sensual desire that my nipples harden. Shit, I wonder if he can see them.
