“You look gorgeous.” She nods and steps back as Doug sprays.
He grins, circling me like a mother hen. “Yeah, you’re fucking rocking those leather pants. I want them.”
“God, I’m nervous.”
“Look up.” Julie adds more liner, then steps back again as Mel walks by me, carrying two glasses of champagne.
“Just relax and have fun…you love Jimmy, so here.” She hands a glass to Malcolm, then cuddles with him.
“What’s up, Daddio?” She grins and I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself enough to do this.
Ammo released my album, This is Courtney, two days after the Rachel fiasco/arrest.
Not sure if it was to distract the press, or he just wanted to be done with it since I have not seen or heard from him in nine days.
I clear my throat and try and smile because I can’t cry, I’m on in under five, for fuck’s sake.
“Ms. Falcon, we need to get you on standby.” The PA’s voice filters in again as I look at the small group of people that have been by my side this whole time.
Malcolm basically moved into Melanie’s for the first few days as I flip-flopped back and forth, ranting and crying about how I can’t live without him, why hasn’t he reached out to me? To I hate him. Then back to why hasn’t he reached out to me?
“You ready, Courtney?” Todd, my new PR man, turns to me, his face looking excited as he pockets his phone.
“Yep, let’s do this. Get me out there.” I nod, owning my pain, I’m not running from it anymore.
I’m in love with Marshall Ammo Adams. My heart will forever be his, but I can’t make him love me. I’m not afraid anymore. I guess when everything that you have been protecting yourself from implodes in front of the entire world, you can either lock yourself up and hide…or you fucking seize the day.
I’ve already done the hiding thing, and it got me nowhere, so fuck it. One day this gut-wrenching ache in my chest will fade…
And if it doesn’t, well, I guess I’ll be the Queen of pain.
I got this.
“We’re moving,” Ace says into his earpiece as I grin, looking down at my heeled boots. I guess I’ve inherited Ace as part of my team. Even with Rachel in jail, he’s still by my side.
“We love you,” I hear Mel scream, but I’m already following the PA as he opened the door for me to enter backstage.
“Jesus.” I roll my neck as the sound guy and a stagehand instantly start taping and doing the best to hide the microphone in my pants since my shirt is backless as I look up at Ace.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I’m fucking nervous.” I shake my hands trying to get the blood flowing as the sound guy steps back.
“Careful with the banging of your jewelry,” he mumbles, and I stop shaking my hands. I guess the numerous bangles I’m wearing is disturbing him.
“Sorry.”
“Good luck, big fan,” he says, walking away, as I cock my head because he could have fooled me.
“Okay, Courtney.” A woman with red hair, two walkie talkies, and a headset reaches for my arm.
“Jimmy wants to interview you first, then, have you sing ‘Tricky Love.’” Positioning me in place as Jimmy talks and laughs with the audience.
“Wait, wait. I thought I was singing first, that’s what I’m used to,” I hiss, grabbing her arm.
“And…you’re on.” Her eyes stay focused on Jimmy, completely unaware that I’m getting ready to full-on panic as she blatantly ignores me.
“With her latest number one album that just released a week ago, let’s hear it for the beautiful and talented Courtney Falcon…” Jimmy looks over at me, the sound of the audience’s excitement suddenly takes over.
“Just breathe,” I whisper and start to walk toward Jimmy as he laughs and stands to hug me.
“Look at you.” He pulls back and motions to the crowd. “You look fantastic, she looks fabulous, right?” The studio floor is vibrating with the loud screams.
“It’s been a while.” He grins, then starts laughing, letting the enthusiastic audience worship me as he sits, and I smile and wave at the nameless faces.
“Courtney, we love you.” Someone yells as the catcalls make Jimmy laugh again, holding up his hands.
“Welcome back, my friend, it’s been too long.” He leans his elbows on the desk.
“It has, too long, I missed you.” I cross my legs.
“Stop it, you’re gonna make me blush.” He leans back and smiles at the crowd as they cheer again.
“So, you have had quite a crazy couple of weeks. I know you probably can’t talk about it…but good grief.”
I nod, as someone whistles, and I smile. “Yeah.” I sigh, “It’s been interesting…” I look at him, and he grins.
“And it looks like you got some ink.” He motions to my tattoo, and the audience stands and cheers as Jimmy starts laughing. “What have you done to my audience? You all sit down.” He motions with his hands. Then turns to me.
