“Okay, whatever. Just order something you think Julia will like. Can I add a meditation room at least?” I ask.

Killian shakes his head, laughing at the idea. “Alright, a meditation room, but if she hates it, we blame it on you.”

“Hell yes, you can!” I say, laughing, but I know Julia will love it. She seemed open to the idea when I explained it to her on the island.

As we talk, the waitress brings the food and places it on the table. This time, her top has an extra button popped. She’s trying way too hard to get our attention.

Chicks like this have never interested me. I can’t get down with someone who throws their pussy at me. Sure, we’re all hot as fuck, but really?

She needs to find a little respect for herself and cool herself down.

The waitress seems to get the hint, walking off looking a little defeated.

She’s attractive—I’ll give her that. But she isn’t our girl. She’s no Julia.

I grab the ketchup bottle and smack the bottom until my fries are coated in a river of red. The two of them shake their head. They always criticize me covering it.

“Why can’t you fucking dip it?” they say.

But ever since I was little this has been my one vice, and this is how I’ve always done it. My mom would tell me that, as a kid, I wouldn’t even eat if there wasn’t a bottle on the table.

As we eat and continue discussing the plans, my cell rings. It’s Derek calling for an update on everything. He couldn’t make it due to a meeting.

“Bro, what’s up? Hold on, let me put you on speaker,” I say, clicking the phone over so we can all hear.

It might not be a wise thing since we’re in public, but fuck it. If people don’t like it, they can leave. I’m not trying to please anyone today.

“How’s it going? Have you seen the final touches?” Derek asks.

“We were just discussing the lighting. Did you check it out already?” Xane asks.

Little did any of us know, Derek already had a walkthrough. He didn’t tell us that he was going to the building first.

“I did. Princess will love what they’ve done. You won’t even recognize the place now,” Derek says.

I scarf down my burger while we all talk; the food is excellent. Before I can ask for another beer, the waitress has one sitting in front of me. She must be searching for something big tonight.

Too bad for her, the only big thing she’s getting is a tip.

She’s at least more than earned that.

“Derek, bro, ask the designer to leave space for a meditation room. Our girl needs to relax more, and I plan on making that happen for her,” I add.

I know the three of them don’t agree, but she needs to find her Zen. After a few minutes, the call ends with all of us pleased about what’s going on. I can’t be happier that we’ve done something like this for Julia.

“So, everything is settled, right?” Xane asks.

“It is for me. I’m happy with how things turned out. Julia’s going to be surprised when she gets back,” Killian says as he tosses the cloth napkin on his plate.

“Well then, we need to go surprise Sweets!” I say, smiling wider than I ever have.

The food’s good, the company’s great, and this waitress has kept us amused all night. She can’t be older than 19 or 20, probably a college student to boot.

“Bros, we’ve frustrated this chick enough. How about we all toss in a hundred each and she can go out and buy herself a nice new dildo and think about us tonight?” I say mirthfully.

I toss a Benjamin on the table as we leave to go make our girl’s day.

Chapter 40

Julia

“Welcome back, Julia!”

The doorman greets me with an impressive smile this morning. Odd, but maybe he got laid over the last few days.

Three days ago, I departed on a vision quest of my own making. I needed to clear the trash from my head. I stop at the little coffee cart in the front entrance.

“A Kona blend, cream, and two sugars,” I say.

The odd glance I get from the barista lets me know that maybe this change inside of me won’t go unnoticed. I don’t order coffee this way. I guess people pay more attention to me than I realized.

Once she hands me the coffee, I bring the aromatic concoction to my nose. I love the smell of coffee—warm, rich, and inviting. I’m much better today than I was when I left days ago.

A short elevator ride to the twenty-eighth floor stops me in my tracks. The floor is empty except for four men standing at the entrance to my office.

My office, my workers, everything.

Gone?

“What the hell happened to my office? My things?” I ask, almost dropping my coffee from the shock.
