They were having a baby.
She stared at Beau and even though fear ran up her spine, she just decided to tell him the truth.
“I’m pregnant.”
Seconds passed, then maybe even minutes, and Beau didn’t say anything. He just stood there and stared at her.
Eloise felt tears fill her eyes, because she knew this wasn’t going to be the happy news Rose assumed it would be.
“Who have you been fucking?” he asked.
“What?”
“You heard me. I can’t get you pregnant. That brat is not mine, so who have you been playing with?”
“You’re accusing me of sleeping with someone else?” Eloise asked.
“I told you that a wolf and a human cannot get fucking pregnant. You’re not my mate, Eloise, which means that baby is not mine. Who have you been with? Who?”
She couldn’t believe what he was accusing her of. It seemed her world had gone from being so happy, and yes, secretive, to horrible.
“Get out,” Eloise said.
“Who?”
“You!” she snarled. “You, you, and only you, but you know what, I see that mistake. You’re just like every other wolf. We’re only good to fuck, right? Somewhere for you to stick your dick into and have fun, but that’s all. You can believe me if you want to, Beau, but that doesn’t matter. I was a virgin when I came to you, and you acted like a prick then. Guess what, you’re acting like one now. Get the fuck out of my house. I don’t need you, nor do I want you. Get out!”
An anger she had never felt before consumed her. She didn’t know where it had come from, but she began to push and shove at Beau.
“Get out!” she repeatedly screamed and yelled at him.
Once he was out the door, she slammed and locked it.
The moment he wasn’t there to bear witness to her falling apart, she dropped to her knees. When arms surrounded her, she couldn’t contain her panic, but then Rose’s voice attempted to soothe her.
“It’s okay,” Rose said. “I’m so sorry.”
“He … thinks I cheated.”
“I know.” Rose held her tightly and Eloise just collapsed in a heap and sobbed. Her heart hurt.
Damn it.
It was only supposed to be a little fun, but now it hurt. Now, she knew who she was really dealing with, and this wasn’t fun.
She was all alone and pregnant.

Beau stepped into the house after a hard day on the ranch. He needed to get into work, otherwise he was going to kill someone. He couldn’t stop thinking about Eloise and how she tried to convince him that another man’s baby was his. He wanted to kill the fucker that had been touching her while he had.
Entering the kitchen, he saw Rose sitting at the dining room table. She was dressed the same way she’d been this morning. A mug of hot chocolate sat in front of her, at least that was the scent.
“What are you still doing up?” Beau asked.
“I’m not your child. I can come and go as I please,” Rose said.
There was no point in arguing there. He had no interest in raising three adult kids. “We’ve got a lot of work to do tomorrow. I want you to fire Eloise when she comes by with the fo—”
He didn’t get to finish as the mug was thrown right above his head. The chocolate that spilled down on him was lukewarm.
“You missed.”
“No, I didn’t,” Rose said. “If I wanted it to hit you, I would have hit you.”
“You were there?” he asked.
“I was there. I was the one who told Eloise she might be pregnant. She felt sick, but she didn’t smell sick. I knew she was pregnant and I knew right away that she was pregnant with your baby.”
“There’s no way that is my baby.”
“Because you’re under some bullshit impression that you can’t get a woman pregnant? Some divide between wolf and human?”
“Only my mate can carry my babies,” Beau said.
“You stupid bastard. I decided to go and ask around about your little theory. Wolves and humans can have kids, Beau. You’re the only stupid fuck in all the fucking different wolf packs that didn’t seem to know. Every wolf that visits No Wolves Road wears a fucking condom! Eloise is carrying your baby, and it makes perfect sense that I couldn’t scent her pregnancy.”
This made Beau stop. “What?”
“Eloise was sick, but I couldn’t scent the sickness on her. Pregnant female wolves, like our kind, the ones that turn into humans, don’t give off any scent. Their pregnancy is hidden, and I’m guessing if we were to have scientists probe and do all kinds of tests, it would show it was some kind of survival technique. Eloise is pregnant with a baby, part wolf, I’m guessing. She told me she was a virgin when she came to you. I also know she’s considered a little … frigid. She doesn’t randomly have sex with anyone.” Rose got to her feet. “If you want to fire the best damn cook we have, that’s on you, but trust me, I’m going to make sure every single person in this pack knows why.”
