They were at his ranch, alone, and he had a nice, large bathtub.

“Beau, put me down!” She burst out laughing as he carried her to the tub. He lowered her down, and she let out a little squeal as he put the cold water on first. “What are you doing?”

He then turned on the hot water, and climbed in behind her.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” he asked, wrapping an arm around her waist, pulling her back against him, and then he pressed his lips against her ear. “Or do I need to fill in the blanks?”

She leaned back against him. “No blanks need to be filled. This feels nice.”

Beau couldn’t agree more. It did feel nice, but what he didn’t want to think about was just how nice this felt between them.

He had a feeling he could get used to the feel of her in his arms, and that surprised him.

Chapter Seven

“You know you look rotten, don’t you?” Rose asked.

Eloise looked up from stirring the pot of tomato sauce. This was the fourth week Rose had been coming around on a Sunday to help her prepare food. Rose didn’t do anything, she merely kept her company.

“I’m sorry, I woke up not feeling too great this morning, and in all honesty, I’m not feeling good right now.”

Rose frowned.

“What?” Eloise asked.

“It’s nothing.”

Eloise blew out a breath. “Tell me. You don’t have to be vague.”

“You don’t smell … sick.”

“Are you trying to tell me you think I’m lying about how I’m feeling?” she asked.

“No, no, not at all, it’s just that a sickness has a certain smell and you don’t have it.” Rose stopped.

“Then I don’t know what is wrong with me.”

“I … you … uh … might be pregnant.”

This made Eloise spin around and focus on the other woman. “No, there’s no way I can get pregnant.”

“You’ve been having sex with Beau, there is a way for you to get pregnant.”

“No, he said that … no. Humans and wolves don’t mate.”

“Doesn’t mean they can’t,” Rose said. “You’re pregnant.”

“You can tell that?”

“Well, no, I can’t tell that.”

“How can you tell I’m not sick? I feel sick.”

“Uh, I don’t know. You’re asking me to have a logical reason for me being able to do something?” Rose asked. “I’m a wolf, in the real world. Should I be able to turn into a furry four-legged animal?”

“Yeah, and we live in the real world,” Eloise said. “I … what am I going to do?”

“Didn’t you guys get a test or something?”

“Yeah.”

Rose got to her feet. “Let me go and get you a test, and we can see if I’m right.”

Eloise didn’t know if she could handle the results of a pregnancy test.

“Okay,” she said.

There was no way she was ready to argue with Rose. Besides, it was going to be wrong.

An hour later, Eloise felt like bursting into tears.

“I thought women were supposed to be happy with this news,” Rose said. “You’re going to have a baby. A nice little Beau running around, or a little Eloise. She is going to be so cute. You’ll make cute babies.”

“How do I tell Beau?” Eloise asked.

“I’m pregnant. Ta-da.”

“No, this is serious,” Eloise said, pacing the small bathroom. It had been strange to have Rose present while she took the test. She didn’t know why the other woman was being so … sweet to her. “He’s not going to believe me.”

“Why not?”

“I don’t know. He told me there was no risk of us getting pregnant, and now I’m pregnant.”

The doorbell rang and she panicked.

“Who is that?” she asked.

Rose frowned. “I’m sorry, but I might have called Beau, you know, for him to come and talk to you.”

“Why would you do that?” Eloise asked.

“I thought it would be good for … you two. You know, having a tiny little baby at the ranch. It would be a lot of fun.”

Eloise didn’t have any other words, just panic.

“It’s going to be okay. Trust me. Beau is going to love this news, and the pack adores you.”

“They don’t know me.”

“But you can cook, and they love that. Also, they love that you’re able to do laundry. That is a big thing for them.”

Eloise didn’t feel like laughing. She wasn’t even close to laughing. In fact, she felt close to tears. This wasn’t good.

“I’ll stay here,” Rose said.

Eloise didn’t want to do this, but she knew there was no point in denying it. She made her way downstairs toward the front door. She opened it just as Beau was about to start knocking with his knuckles as they were held up, poised to knock.

“Eloise,” he said. “Rose told me to come over, that something was happening.”

He cupped her face and moved into her home, closing the door behind him. Always keeping their relationship a secret.

“Is everything okay?”

She didn’t have the first clue how to start this conversation. This felt like the last time he told her she should just come out and say what was on her mind, and that was about her virginity. This wasn’t about her first time, though. This was about sex.
