“That’s a common theme today.” I wink at him, and we turn to get this over with. Wild begged me to fly to Las Vegas and have a quickie wedding, but I knew it would kill his mother. One more thing he was right about; never let Ms. Milly plan an event. Things get way out of control.

EPILOGUE

WILD-TWO YEARS LATER

Lynette rushes into my office and shakes her head. “Why are you ignoring your phone?”

“I’m ignoring everyone today,” I remind her without looking up from my computer screen. “My wife is due in two days, and I’m taking the next month off.”

“Well, you’re going to miss the birth of your child if you don’t get to the hospital soon,” she smarts, and I spring up from my chair, causing it to topple over.

“Why didn’t anyone call me?” I shout as I search for my keys.

Dillon strolls in, tossing his key fob in the air. “Come on, crazy guy.” He shakes his head. “I’ll get you there.” He drags me out into the lobby and turns to Lynette. “I’ll take it from here. Let Ms. Milly know you’re sending the dumbass to the hospital.”

“Dumbass,” I repeat as we step onto the elevator. My mind is blown as I let my best friend shove me into the waiting elevator.

“Dumbass.” He raises an eyebrow. “You turned off your fucking cellphone with your wife waddling around about to explode at any minute.” Shaking his head, he hits the G button and sighs. “You’re lucky Ms. Milly took control. She and your dad are taking Jenna to the hospital right now.”

Fuck. Terror cuts through me at the thought of my wife in pain. Sweat begins to trickle down the side of my face as I swallow down the nausea bubbling in my stomach. “Fuck. I didn’t realize my phone was off.” I grab it out of my pocket and hit the button, but nothing happens. Sure enough. Dead. I must have forgotten to charge the fucker last night. “It’s dead.” I sigh.

“You’re going to be dead if we don’t get to the hospital.” My friend manages to drive us to the hospital in record time. He calls ahead, and we’re able to skip the front desk and head straight up to Jenna’s room.

I push the door open and breathe a sigh of relief when I see my gorgeous wife lying in the hospital bed with my mother at her side. Jenna looks at me and growls through clenched teeth, “Get your ass over here.” Now that I look closely, I’m able to see the lines of strain around her eyes and the way she’s grasping Ms. Milly’s hand. “It’s your ancient sperm’s fault that I’m in this condition.”

“Now, dear,” Ms. Milly brushes the sweaty hair off her forehead, “we don’t need to insult his baby-making right now.”

When my wife’s eyes flash angrily, I hastily step in and turn to my mother. “Mom, I’ll take over from here.” As Jenna grabs the back of my shirt, her nails dig into my skin and I wince. “Why don’t you go find Dad and let him know I made it?”

My mother smiles at me before patting the side of my face. “We’ll be in the waiting room.”

After she walks out the door, I turn to Jenna and kiss her sweaty cheek. “I’m sorry my phone was off. I forgot to charge it last night.”

“You better have an awesome push present to make up for it,” she grunts out and squeezes the hell out of my hand. Oops. I might have forgotten that, too. When the nurse comes in to check Jenna’s progress, I grab her cellphone and send an emergency text to Dillon. He makes me beg and plead, but in the end, I know my best friend will come through for me.

Four hours and lots of sweat and tears later, I stare down at my daughter. “How could you do this to me?” I look over at my wife and whimper.

“You knew there was a fifty-percent chance.” She rolls her eyes and sighs. The door closed behind our last visitor a few moments ago, and I finally get some time alone with my girls.

Jenna looks down at the sapphire and diamond tennis bracelet on her wrist. “I love my push present.”

I snuggle Emma close and smile at my tired wife. “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” she whispers and continues to spin the bracelet around her arm. “Dillon did a great job picking this out.”
