Wild rushes into our hotel room and wraps his arms around me. “Fuck, Baby.” He lays his forehead against mine. “I’m so damn sorry.”

I look into his blue eyes and smile. “You were defending me.” He leans down to cover my lips with his.

By the time we come up for air, I’ve forgotten what we were talking about. This man annihilates my brain cells. Later that afternoon, we discuss the problem with the asshole Hollywood producer, and Wild assures me his attorney has taken care of everything.

Evidently, the jerk doesn’t want the media to discover that he acted callously toward a woman. His new film would take a huge publicity hit, and that’s just bad for business. Wild agreed to keep his mouth shut, and the producer dropped the assault charges.

“My prayers have been answered,” Ms. Milly gasps when she sees the diamond ring on my finger. “Lucas, grab a bottle of champagne,” she cries and glances at my stomach briefly before looking over at Wild. “We can have alcohol, right?”

Oh my God. I bite my lip to keep from bursting out laughing. My future mother-in-law loves to watch her son blush. “Of course, we can have champagne,” Wild barks back at her.

“Well, you never know these days,” she huffs. “I mean, things are different.” She rolls her eyes as Gaston walks away biting his bottom lip. The butler is used to his employer, but he’s still having a hard time containing his laughter at Wild’s expense.

I cuddle Belle to me while Gaston hands out the glasses of champagne. Frank grumbles a little as Wild pets him, but finally gives up and lets him pick him up. The pups settle into our arms, and we sit at the table and celebrate our engagement with Ms. Milly, Mr. Lucas, and Gaston. Ms. Milly looks over at Wild and asks us about our wedding plans. “We just got engaged two days ago,” he insists.

“Well, don’t drag your feet. You’re not getting any younger,” she argues, and I bite my tongue to hold back my laughter. This whole family is perfect for me.

Eight Months Later

Piper steps into the room and smiles at me. “You look beautiful.”

I fiddle with my veil and attempt to calm my frazzled nerves. “I think I might barf,” slips out before I’m able to catch it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to marry the love of my life. It’s the actual wedding that has me scared to death and ready to puke.

“Ms. Milly will ax-murder you and send a blow-up doll that looks just like you down the aisle if you freak out,” Emery teases behind Piper. All the Cuties have grown close to the Templetons and know how crazy planning my wedding has made Ms. Milly.

My friend is absolutely right. Ms. Milly is over the moon about marrying off her only son and won’t tolerate any issues at this point. She’s been a drill sergeant throughout the entire planning stage, and no one is brave enough to cross her.

“Chop, chop.” Speak of the devil. My future mother-in-law rushes in the door snapping her fingers. “It’s time to get this show on the road. My son isn’t getting any younger.”

“See?” Emery mouths, and I forget all about my nervousness.

“You look smashing.” Ms. Milly gives me air kisses and I’m relieved. I’d hate to walk down the aisle with her bright pink lipstick smeared on the side of my face.

“Come on, girls.” She stands at the door and raises her eyebrow. “My boy is going to be too old to give me grandchildren soon.”

I laugh to myself when I envision Wild’s face when I inform him his mother is worried about the health of his old sperm.

Dad Lucas is waiting at the back of the church to walk me down the aisle. When I step next to him, he leans over and kisses my cheek. “You look stunning.”

I smile at him and take his arm. “Thank you.” Then I decide to have a little fun with him. I lean close and whisper, “We better hurry down the aisle. Ms. Milly is worried about the age of Wild’s sperm.”

As he bursts out laughing, the sound echoes through the quiet church and I bite my lip. Oops. He whispers back, “He couldn’t have chosen better.”

My nerves return as I watch each of my friends walk down the aisle ahead of us. When it's our turn, Dad Lucas leans over and winks. “Showtime.” When I glance down the aisle and see Wild, I forget everyone else in the church. My body heats up and melts at the sight of him in the black tuxedo.

“I thought I’d grow old and die waiting for you,” he leans over and whispers in my ear. He’s a little loud, and Dillon coughs next to him to cover his laugh.
