Nope, no worrying. I just took a little peek.
Thank God.
They didn’t seem to care.
Meeting new people was ridiculously hard…what had I been thinking?
“Thank you for making us all cookies.” Caitlin smiled as she herded Damon closer to the kitchen. “They smell wonderful but I don’t think I’ve ever had them.”
She was much better with new people than me or Damon because she made Daddy smile and he launched into an explanation of his goodies and the practical part of his job.
Yep, she was much better with peopling than me or Damon.
Was it bad that I was starting to hope she was actually living with us?
I wasn’t sure we could be trusted on our own…he kept frowning.
Chapter 22
Tate
“Last chance to change your mind.” I wasn’t sure giving him another out was the best idea, but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t stepping on his toes. “I can go play on my phone somewhere. Pick out a new restaurant, maybe?”
Addison tried to look confident as he stood straighter, but the death grip he had on my hand said otherwise. “No, I think this is something we should do together. Big decisions are something we should make as a couple. That’s important for special relationships.”
We were walking through the club fair, not signing contracts to move to Mars.
“I agree.” To a degree. “I just wanted to make sure you knew I wouldn’t be offended if you decided this was something you wanted to do on your own, or with Damon, or with some of your online friends.”
Just reminding him about how many people he knew looked like it made him feel better, but he shook his head as we slowly made our way across campus toward the greenspace where they were holding the event. “No, thank you.”
I thought that would be all I got, but he surprised me. “I…I would feel more confident with you here, but you’re right, Damon would be…he’d be polite to walk around with.”
Well, that was one word for the quiet man.
“He seems very polite. You’re right.” He also couldn’t seem to get rid of his frown, even though the way his girlfriend kept rolling her eyes said it wasn’t his default expression. “He also made sure you weren’t going to be alone today. That was nice.”
It’d been the first thing Addison had told me about when I’d picked him up after he’d spent the first night in his apartment, and it had Addison nodding again and letting out another deep breath. “Yes, he wanted to make sure I was okay, and he did it without Catilin prompting him.”
She seemed to do that a lot.
It made me wonder about the dynamics of their relationship, but neither of us were sure how to figure that out. I knew there was a reason the school had put them together, but so far, whatever they had in common wasn’t obvious.
At first I’d thought Damon was a Dom or something similar, but his frowning never seemed to move into caretaking or even just generally bossy territory. The closest he’d come to anything like that was asking how Addison was doing a few times once I’d left my sunshine alone for the night.
Well, physically alone.
He’d texted me a thousand times between when I’d started driving home and when I’d shown back up at his new place. If I’d known the roommate better, or if we’d had better communication with him, I’d have stayed the night, but when Catilin left in the evening, it’d seemed like a good idea for me to do so too.
“She seems important to him and like she knows him really well.” Giving Addison’s hand a squeeze, I let my nosiness peek out. “Did he say anything about their relationship?”
Addison chuckled. “No and it’s making me crazy. I don’t even know how long they’ve been seeing each other or if they’re regular boyfriend and girlfriend or something else.”
“So we’re voting something else, right?” My question got a giggle from him and he got a bit of a bounce back in his step.
“Yes.” Looking lighter, Addison shrugged. “But I don’t know what. We didn’t make them nervous, though, so that must say something about their relationship.”
“I thought his frown might be judging or something but that just seems to be how he is.” I didn’t mean it rude but Addison snickered.
“Yeah, he watches and frowns, but a few times, I caught him looking happier when he was texting someone—Caitlin, I think—and he looked happier maybe when he first got up this morning.” Addison’s smile got wider. “I think he’d forgotten he was supposed to be frowning and he looked a lot brighter before he went back to looking grumpy. I think that might be his worried face?”
What did he have to worry about?
Nope. Not my business.
“I’m not going to ask why he’s worried.” My response got a snicker from Addison.
