Working at the kitchen table wasn’t going to be an option going forward, but for the time being while Daddy finished putting my food away and making me cookies, it’d seemed like the best plan. It hadn’t been…and I knew it wasn’t just in my head when Daddy frowned.

That made me feel better even if it shouldn’t have, so I sat straighter and tried to stop thinking about them. “I went over everything I could find from my professors and I went through the information about the campus get to know everyone activities.”

Daddy looked hopeful but I had to burst his bubble. “They’re weird. I’m not going to a pool party and I have no desire to party like it’s the Eighties.”

Cocking his head, Daddy didn’t look like he knew what that meant either, so I shrugged. “The description doesn’t help but I’m not doing that.”

Trying not to laugh, Daddy took a deep breath and let it out slowly. “I think that’s a very reasonable decision.”

Oh yeah.

“Are you sure those are the only options?” Still looking slightly confused and definitely amused, Daddy came out of the small kitchen and around to the table. “What were they thinking?”

“Well, I’m thinking the whole get-to-know-you plan was designed by excitable extroverts with very few nervous people in their lives.” My smart-ass comment got a giggle from our audience and that made Daddy roll his eyes.

“I have to agree with you.” Shaking his head, he leaned over and kissed my head as he looked at the screen of my laptop. “Well, the big things aren’t stuff you’re interested in but is there anything smaller?”

Hmm.

“Maybe their Maker’s Lab thing? It’s got 3D printers and stuff like that. It’s got an open house tomorrow and I can learn how to use everything they have.” That didn’t sound too bad. “And I’m going to go over the list of clubs in more detail later, but you were right, there are a few that look interesting at the very least.”

Daddy snorted, looking cute and skeptical. “I’m not letting you anywhere near interesting without supervision.”

And we got another snicker.

That seemed to be a good sign, so I tried to practice being myself. “They’re not like that. The naughty ones are listed on social media not the school’s official website. These are about food and LGBT stuff. They’re the talking and lecturing you kind, not the naughty kind.”

There were both of those on campus but only the boring one showed up on the main page.

Daddy laughed. “I can see what you’ve been looking up.”

He was playing sweet and innocent but he’d been the one to show me the grown-up ones. But since this was about playing to our audience and not about reality, I didn’t point that out. “No, I’m your…I’m very sweet and innocent.”

Yes, that didn’t sound quiet as interesting as calling myself his good boy.

Daddy nearly giggled, though, so I knew it hadn’t come out as smoothly as I’d hoped. “We’ll see about that. Alright, cookies are almost done. Are you going to share or hoard?”

That was hard.

“You’ll bring me more if I share, right?” I’d only brought hoarding levels of cookie dough, not sharing amounts. “Sharing shouldn’t count when it comes to the cookies to veggies ratio.”

Oops.

Daddy’s eyes twinkled as he smirked and kissed my head. “Deal. I will make sure we have more when you come home this weekend. Then you can bring them back whenever you need to.”

“Okay, then I will share.” Once I worked up the courage to go talk to the people who were eavesdropping.

Hmm, was it eavesdropping if they lived here too?

Deciding it probably wasn’t even if she didn’t seem to live here…or maybe she did, that was kind of questionable…I pushed away from the table but was saved from having to be a good grown-up when Caitlin was really nosy again.

“What smells so good?” Popping her head out of Damon’s bedroom, Caitlin smiled. “And did I hear something about sharing?”

She definitely wasn’t shy.

Damon still looked serious and frowny, but he didn’t seem to mind Caitlin dragging him out of their room. “As long as we’re not imposing.”

“You’re not.” Daddy didn’t even pretend that I was supposed to be handling things and gestured for them to come join us. “He has plenty, even if he pretends they’re something to be rationed and hoarded.”

I couldn’t help rolling my eyes. “Before we started seeing each other, I did have to ration them.”

Daddy laughed, then explained what I meant. “We met when I was delivering pizza and cookie dough to him. He’s just using me for my junk food connection.”

Giggling, I nodded and finally managed to get up from the table to go find my cookies. “Best decision ever.”

For a lot of reasons.

“Thank you for making me cookies.” Kissing Daddy’s cheek, I was very proud of myself for not saying Daddy and I didn’t even panic when I realized I might’ve made Damon and Caitlin uncomfortable.
