The man exhaled and approached them both.
“I love that woman,” Sugar said without hesitation. “I love all three of them. But Neha is different. You see the side she shares with the world. The perfectly in control, not a fucking thing gets to her side. We see, I see the other side of her. The one that has fought tooth and nail to get where she is. Do not think for a minute because we’re not law or in the military we won’t fight, and do so dirty, to keep her safe.”
Davin didn’t doubt it for a minute.
“She’s luck to have you for friends. I need to know more about her past so I can help.”
“It’s not my place to share that with you.”
“Do it Sugar. Tell them about her brother, her family. It’s all going to come out anyway because of the fucking reporters.” Renny’s tone was ice cold.
Another look with Tav who led the way back to the living room and took a seat. He joined him while they were handed drinks by Cindy and Renny began working on something in the kitchen. He wasn’t sure what, but it fucking smelled good when she heated it up.
Three hours later, stuffed and head swimming with the news he’d gotten, he walked out to his vehicle, Tavin beside him.
“What are you going to do?” he asked Tavin, spinning his keys in hand.
“Nothing for me to do. I am not getting in this.” A one shoulder shrug. “Not from that end anyway.”
He cracked his neck and leaned against his Wrangler.
“What about you?” Tavin pushed his sunglasses up on his face and readjusted his ball cap.
“I’m going on base to see what I can find out.”
“I don’t have to remind you to be discrete, do I?”
“Nope. Let me know if you hear anything.”
Tavin nodded. “Likewise. See you at home, brother.”
Hopping into his vehicle, he started the engine and drove off, noting right away the vehicle that pulled out after him. Music on, he drummed his fingers on the wheel and called his brother.
“Just left you man, can’t miss me that much, can you?’
“I picked up a tail. Did you?”
“Yes, I sure did. I’ll call the others and let them know.”
He frowned and slowed for a turn. “When did you get their numbers and why didn’t they give them to me?”
“I’m older and more trustworthy.”
Davin snorted. “Fuck you. Let them know. I’m about to find out if this fuck can get on base.” He didn’t see any stickers but that didn’t mean they weren’t on the bumper or something like that. Davin ended the call with his brother and turned up the beat once more.
He drove onto base and gave a nod as he was waved through. Once he parked, he dawdled long enough to see that yes, that vehicle did also get on base. Sure, it could have been a coincidence but as he made three other stops before actually getting here and that vehicle waited for him each time, he wasn’t holding out hope it was anything but deliberate.
Davin didn’t recognize the man climbing out but that didn’t surprise him. With a whistle on his lips, he went off to work. The moment the other man stopped following him, he snuck back to the lot and went to the car, grabbing the make and model as well as the plate. Then he returned once more to the range and put his attention on the job before him.
It wasn’t easy. All he could see was the completely shut down look on Neha’s face before she told him to get out. He wasn’t sure if she would be leaving base tonight, but he would be calling.
Chapter 7
Neha stared up at the ceiling in her tiny room that was going to be home for the next few months. Mentally exhausted, she tried to get comfortable but wasn’t able to do so. She tossed and turned while searching for that place where she could succumb to the exhaustion streaming over her.
That entire thing had been intense. All the accusations flying at her, made her sick to her stomach. This wasn’t fair. if it was her brother, why the fuck was he doing this to her? None of it made sense.
Sure, he was an ass and probably was holding a huge grudge since she kicked him out of her place, but to do something like this? She’d not thought he’d had it in him.
Then again I would have thought my parents would be proud of what I’ve done. Not, ambivalent and telling me to support my brother’s drug habit. So there we go. I’m obviously shitty when it comes to what should and shouldn’t be thought.
She rolled over on her side, wishing she were home.
Being in Davin’s arms would be even nicer. Davin. Even thinking about him brought a level of calmness to her. Not the only thing his mental image created but right now, she was to tired to think about sex. At least on her own.
