“While in the club?”

“Nope. We’re going to set a trap and wait for him to step in it.”

“I hope you get some answers.”

She wasn’t the only one. They were long past due finding Sloane’s sister, whether alive or dead. Or half alive, even.

He got to his feet and turned, going face to face with her. “I’d invite you over after work, but I don’t know what direction this night’s going to go.”

She stepped closer, planting one of her platform heels between his boots, leaning in and murmuring, “Be careful.”

When she drew her long nails across the back of his neck, his blood considered taking a trip south. Now was not the time. “Always. I’ll check in with you later.”

“Not necessary.”

As she began to step away, he snagged her wrist and pulled her around to face him again. “I’ll check in with you later,” he repeated more firmly.

An unfamiliar expression crossed her face. There and gone in a flash.

Whatever it was—and he could damn well guess—he didn’t like it. “You don’t like me worrying about you, Sapphire. But you also do.” That might not be all of it, but at least part of her problem.

Instead of denying it, she covered her tracks with, “I’m sorry about earlier. Life’s been a bit much lately.”

“With working for Saint?”

“With… everything.”

“With me,” he concluded.

“With everything,” she echoed.

“Right,” he said tightly. “I’d kiss you goodbye, but your asshole boss just came out onto the floor. I need to go meet up with my team. We’ll catch up later.”

With a nod, she headed over to a booth in the corner, full with three guys in their twenties. All six eyeballs were glued to her instead of the dancer on stage.

For fuck’s sake.

He didn’t mind her working in a strip club.

He minded her getting naked for anyone but him.

He minded other men touching her when every inch of that body should belong solely to him.

He needed to get over it.

He wasn’t sure, if things continued between him and Sapphire, he’d be able to.

That could be a huge problem. Especially since he didn’t want to fuck up his shot with her by being stubborn.

But it was a problem he couldn’t think about right now.

They had another one they needed to deal with first.

With baseball caps pulled low and skull bandanas tied around the lower half of their face to hide their identity from both humans, security cameras and traffic cams, the four of them—Rez, Decker, Finn and Nox—had split up into three vehicles.

They had to make sure that none of them were recognized. Especially Rez and Nox since they were still doing the undercover construction work. And if the fucker didn’t give them any good leads about Sadie tonight, they would have to continue to keep an eye out for her. Along with continuing to document any illegal activity the Demons were involved in, of course, since as task force members that was what they were supposed to be concentrating on, not hunting down an abusive prospect who stole Sloane’s sister.

No matter what, they needed to hurry and get this mission rocking and rolling since dawn was fast approaching.

Rez, with Decker in the passenger seat, had parked on the outskirts and in the shadows of the employee parking lot to wait for T-Bone to leave The Peach Pit.

With Decker buzzing next to him, the air inside the vehicle hummed with tension as they watched the employees roll out after closing. The big man was antsy to get his paws on the prospect who stole Sadie right from under his nose.

They were determined to find her tonight and finally get all this shit over with.

Or at the minimum, get her location.

Either way, they were about to convince T-Bone that keeping Sadie was no longer an option.

Once the prospect climbed into that piece-of-shit sedan, Rez waited until he pulled out of the alley and onto the main road before turning on the vehicle’s lights and tailing him.

“Let’s get ‘er done,” Decker growled, texting Finn and Nox to let them know their target was on the move.

Rez kept a careful eye on the vehicle about a quarter mile ahead of them. He didn’t want to get too close to tip the fucker off, but he also didn’t want to lose him. It took experience and skill to follow someone and not get made.

Especially at night with no other traffic.

Every turn, every stop sign, every traffic light, Decker would say, “Don’t get too close,” or “Don’t lose him.”

Finally, Rez shook his head and barked, “Jesus, Deck, shut the fuck up. My nerves are already on edge.”

Decker threw up his hands and sat back in his seat.

“I know you want to find her. So do we. But if you ride my ass, I’m going to make a mistake.”

“My heart’s beating a thousand miles a minute,” Decker grumbled, pressing a hand to his chest.
