Decker asked, Any signs of Sadie?

Not yet. We’ll take a closer look as soon as possible w/o the risk of blowing our cover.

Fuck. If she’s not with him, we need to grab and grill him for Sadie’s whereabouts, came Decker’s response to Rez’s text.

Decker must have added Finn to a group text since suddenly, Heat Miser was in the mix. That’s not all we need to do.

Rez added Nox to the conversation to keep him in the loop.

Decker: We’ll deal with him. Have to find Sadie first.

Finn: Agreed. Since he’s the last known person to see her.

Rez: When do you want to have a little meeting with him to find out what he knows?

Nox: Let’s not spook him.

Rez turned and gave Nox a nod in agreement.

Nox dropped his attention back to his phone and texted, We’ll handle this carefully. We’ll check him out and see if he sticks around. If he leaves, Mullins can see what he’s driving and what direction he ends up heading.

Nox’s fingers moved like fucking lightning. Rez took forever to text since he had to fix typos every other fucking word.

“Do you want to go be nosy?” he whispered to Nox.

His BAMC brother gave him a single nod and said loud enough for anyone listening to hear, “Could use a break to stretch my legs. You?”

“Actually, I could use a fucking beer. You know I hate doing drywall.” Rez tipped his head toward the hallway.

“We get all the drywall spackled and sanded this week, next week we can paint,” Nox announced loudly, wiping his hands off with a clean rag.

For fuck’s sake. Rez hated painting as much as preparing drywall.

Yeah, he certainly didn’t think he’d be doing shit work like this when he decided to become a cop. Broken nose while trying to subdue a subject? Yeah. Being covered in spackle splatter and dust? Fuck no.

He never minded a good fight. But manual labor was just… He sighed and whacked Nox on the back. “Let’s go fishing.”

When Nox followed him into the wide hallway, they didn’t see or hear shit. The three rooms to their right were finished and claimed by Demons. The three rooms to their left, including the one they just stepped out of, were the bedrooms they were working on finishing for the MC.

“Since Wolf said he wants us to build out the last three rooms the same as the finished ones, maybe we should take a closer look at them.”

Nox played along. “Good idea. See if any are unlocked.”

They didn’t even bother to try the first two doors, they headed directly down to the end to the room assigned to T-Bone.

Rez turned the knob, shot a look at Nox when it turned freely, then began to push the door open. Just as he did so, T-Bone opened the door, but used his body to block their way and their view into the dark room.

“Who the fuck are you? What the fuck you doin’?” The scowling prospect squeezed out and quickly closed the door behind him.

“I’m Tony and this,” Rez jerked a thumb toward his partner, “is Lenny. We were hired to finish the construction on the last three rooms.”

“Don’t give a fuck,” T-Bone grumbled as he tried to push past the two of them.

They made sure that didn’t happen. “Since this is a new job for us, we wanted to see how the last crew finished off the rooms so we can make sure to match it.” It was such a damn lame excuse, but he hadn’t run into any Demon yet who could think critically.

Nox’s nostrils flared and his mouth got tight as he took in the fading scars on the prospect’s face.

“Shit, dude,” Rez exclaimed. “Looks like you’ve been in a damn cat fight. She must’ve been really into it, huh?” He wiggled his eyebrows.

The biker automatically lifted a hand to his face where Sloane must have scratched the shit out of him during her struggle to prevent him from abducting her. As T-Bone did so, Rez also noticed some infected scratches, as well as some scars on his raised hand, no doubt from Finn the Feline biting and scratching him.

“Damn, man, you should get those scratches looked at. Looks like you tangled with a feisty cougar.”

“Mind your own fuckin’ business.” T-Bone tried to step between them again, but Rez and Nox closed up rank. Both of them had more bulk than the prospect, so he was easy to block.

“That room yours?” Rez tipped his head toward the closed door behind T-Bone.

The prospect’s lips pulled downward. “Why the fuck you askin’?”

Rez shrugged. “Like I said, just checking to make sure our job’s consistent with the rest of the construction, that’s all. Also, if you need any work done in there, we can do it after we’re finished with the room we’re working on now.”
