“I’m not sitting here confessing my undying love for you, Red. But I’d like to see where this goes.”

“Why do you want to date me?”

“Right now? I don’t know. You’re not making a very solid case for yourself,” he teased.

“Oh, fuck you! My magic, miracle, world-peace-bringing ass and I are leaving you alone!” I made an attempt to get up and move, but Rush grabbed my arm and pulled me toward him. I went easily, but didn’t sit beside him again. Instead, I straddled his lap and wrapped my arms around him.

I wanted this. I wanted Rush. I deserved that, didn’t I?

I said, “So…I guess you’re my boyfriend now…but we take it slow. It’s not serious. We just…see what happens.”

“I can do that.”

I leaned in and pressed my mouth to his, let my tongue dip inside. He wrapped his arm around me, his sling rubbing against my chest. “Stupid fucking sling,” I said against his lips.

“See what I mean? I hate the thing. I can take it off for a few—”

“No! You will not!”

“You’re a nurse, Linc. You know I can take it off when I shower and I take it off for therapy. You can be my therapy.”

He leaned in again, but I put my hand against my lips so he couldn’t kiss me. “Yeah, that’s all we need. Rush Alexander’s injury getting worse because he was fucking his boyfriend and things got a little out of hand. Your mom and Jude would hate me! Not to mention all your fans.”

Ooh, but I liked that. Not the hurting him part, obviously, but I liked the sound of being called Rush’s boyfriend.

Boyfriend. I was a boyfriend.

I’d fucked a lot of guys, but I’d never been this.

“My family won’t hate you, and we’re fucking again? Great!”

But instead, I jumped off his lap and backed away.

“Damn, you’re sexy,” Rush said.

I turned, showed him my ass, rubbed my hand over it. “All the poor boys…look what they’re missing because I have a boyfriend now.”

“Their loss. My gain. Are you going to come here so we can have sex again? I’ll be real good to you, Red. Spread you out and tell you how fucking pretty you are.”

I trembled, felt a little dizzy. God, that fucking did it for me.

“No…but if you’re good, I’ll take your sling off and we can take a shower. If you try to touch, it goes back on. Then I’ll get you all wrapped up in it again, and we can make some food.”

“I think I like having a nurse for a boyfriend. You’re going to take care of me?”

“Only if I get to see you naked.”

He stood and walked over. Lifting my arms, I did exactly what I said I was going to do. Took his sling off…then his shirt. I might have rubbed my cheek against his light dusting of chest hair before I examined his shoulder…kissed it.

We took a shower, and then I helped him dress and put his sling back on. We made it through lunch before we got naked, sweaty, and sticky again when we frotted together and we both came all over Rush.

And it was…awesome.

I could do this. I could have a boyfriend.

What could possibly go wrong?

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Rush

Rush Alexander is a stand-up guy. He does a lot of good for motocross.

It had been late when Linc brought me home. It wasn’t often that we hung around after sex together. We typically fucked, then one of us went home. Every now and again we’d fall asleep together. Once we’d had breakfast the next morning with Beau, but usually it was all very no strings attached.

Yesterday had been different, and I liked it. Hell, I just liked Linc. Enjoyed spending time together. We’d shared two meals and laughed and fucked around all afternoon. I was pretty sure we’d be good at this whole boyfriends thing…well, if I could get Linc to trust me. It was obvious he’d been hurt badly, maybe more than once, and the thought made me grind my teeth.

Rolling over, I groaned. My sleep fucking sucked. I couldn’t wait to get this damn sling off. The accident came back to me, flashed through my head, and I felt a pang in my gut.

I was still so angry about it. This had been my year, and I’d ruined it.

With a sigh, I got out of bed, fumbled to put on a pair of underwear and basketball shorts, then made my way into the kitchen. Mom was sitting at the table, a coffee in front of her.

“I hope you don’t mind, I came in to have breakfast with you this morning,” she said with a smile.

“Of course I don’t mind. It’s nice to get to share meals with you. I like having you here. What do you want? I’ll make us something.”

“Oh, you shush. You only have one arm. I’ll do it. Lots of protein, right?”
