As he got closer to the kitchen, the scent of coffee was also strong. He walked into the kitchen to find Rosalie at the stove. The coffeepot already brewed with two plates that already had some fried eggs on them.

“Morning,” he said.

Rosalie turned toward him, smiling. “Morning. I hope you’re hungry.”

“Starving.”

“I picked up some bread yesterday,” she said.

He grabbed the large loaf and saw it wasn’t cut. Rifling through the drawers, he found the cutting knife and chopping board. Rosalie carried their plates into the dining room and returned to grab them both a coffee. While she did, he cut them several chunks of bread. He was starving.

Rosalie flicked her hair over her shoulder as she sat down, and she hadn’t brushed her hair. In fact, she looked like she hadn’t been awake that long. She rarely wore any makeup, if at all, and her cheeks were rosy. The sun was already up and it was so fucking warm, but he couldn’t look away from her. Not even as he dipped his bread into some tomato juice that had mixed with the bacon grease.

“I figured we could head to the beach today,” he said. “What do you think?”

“You mean, like, together?”

He smirked. “Yeah, like with each other. You know, doing honeymoon things.” He winked at her.

“Sure. Sounds good. How’s your mom?” she asked.

“More than fine. How is Petal and your mom?”

“Great. Petal is loving the cruise. Mom’s enjoying it as well, but she does get a little seasick from time to time. She is having to stay clear of the sides of the boat and stuff.”

Colt chuckled.

“How are things back home?” she asked.

“I don’t know. Dad told me to enjoy my honeymoon and not think about the club.”

Rosalie snorted. “I bet that’s a lot harder than it sounds, right?”

“Hell, yeah,” he said. “It’s a giant pain in the ass.”

She giggled. “So what’s it like having your dad for a boss?”

“Huh?”

“You work at the club, right? Your job is part of all that. I love my mom so much, but I don’t know if I could have worked for her, or anything like that.” Rosalie tilted her head to the side as she took a bite of her bread. “Not that I’m asking for information. Forget it, okay? I know how it sounds because of who I am. I was just trying to make conversation.” She shrugged.

Colt gritted his teeth. This was what Daemon wanted. This divide. Even if he tried to show unity with Rosalie, Daemon knew he would never fall for it. There would always be a barrier because of who she was.

“At times, it sucks. Not going to lie, it’s not easy, because part of me wants to tell him to fuck off.”

Rosalie giggled. He saw the surprise in her eyes when he started to talk. “Have you ever told him to?”

“Hell, no. Dude is fucking scary. I think we’ve kind of worked out a system. He calls me ‘son’ or Colt, depending on who he is. If he says ‘son,’ then he’s Dad. If it’s Colt, he’s Warden. It has worked pretty well so far.”

“And all the times in between.”

“It’s a work in progress.”

“Did you always want to be part of the club?” she asked.

Colt felt his nostrils flare. “Did you always want to work at the diner?”

“Hell, no. Al is not a nice guy. Too handsy.” She held her hands up and opened and closed them as if she was squeezing on something.

“I can deal with that.”

“I have a feeling you already did. Al stopped being handsy a few months ago.” She shrugged. “Trust me, I don’t miss it.”

He chuckled. Yes, he’d gone and talked to Al, and by talk, he’d threatened.

“You don’t see yourself doing anything else but being part of the club?”

“There is nothing else for me. The club is my life.” He didn’t see a reason not to tell her, so he told her one of his biggest ambitions. “I hope to reach VP one day. Be by my father’s side.”

“He didn’t give that to you?”

Colt shook his head. “In the club world, you earn your patch. It doesn’t come without some work.”

“Makes sense, I guess.”

“What about you?” he asked. “Do you want to be a mother?”

She pursed her lips. “That seems kind of hard to answer. I guess the truth is right now, I don’t feel ready. I don’t know how I’ll react when the stick thingy turns to the Yes, you’re pregnant. Don’t you think you should feel like you know everything to be a parent?”

“I’m pretty sure that’s how a lot of people feel, but let’s face it, who actually knows a lot about everything?” he asked.

“True, I guess.” She sighed. “I’m sorry, I guess I’m just freaking out that I should be, you know, prepared. I mean, it’s going to be a tiny human. A baby. I figured we all should know a little more about life, and I guess about everything.”
