Kiel didn’t understand but he wouldn’t argue with her. If she wanted to walk along the beach, he’d walk with her. He got up and carried his plate over to the sink, where she stood, leaning against the counter. He bent slightly and kissed her.

“You know what?”

“What?”

“You’re the best part of my day,” he told her.

She wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him. “Mine too,” she said when they parted.

“Are you sure you want to go to the beach?” Kiel placed kisses from her ear down to her neck.

“Yep,” she said as she stepped out of his grasp.

He groaned. “You’re killing me.”

Eloise laughed. “Come on lover boy, it’ll be good for you. The fresh air will re-energize you.”

“Yeah, yeah.” Kiel shuffled his feet toward the door and followed her outside. She was a few steps ahead of him, so he jogged to catch up. They held hands as they crossed the street and walked down the path toward the sand.

Eloise took her shoes off and sighed when her toes touched the cold sand. They walked close to the surf and sat down. Kiel used to hate having sand everywhere, but in the short months he’d been in Seaport, he found out he didn’t really care. Living near the beach meant sand and there wasn’t much he could do about it. Especially when remnants of a hurricane came to town. The wind was fierce, but the surfers loved the treacherous waves.

Kiel sat behind Eloise. She nestled against his chest and sighed. Their relationship was new, but he was happy. And he was certain she was as well. “I think I’m going to take up surfing.”

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah. I mean, why not?” He snuggled her closer. “Blue Lobster is offering lessons in the spring.”

“You’ll need a wetsuit.”

He laughed. “I’m sure I can find a store around here.”

“Did you see the news?”

He shook his head and then said no. Their “news” channel was a local Instagram account that posted photos people submitted to them.

“The Carter’s found a shark in the rocks by their house.”

“Seriously?”

She nodded. “It’s only a matter of time before they migrate here.”

“Huh. You’d think they’d stay where the food source is.”

“Yeah.” Eloise readjusted and snuggled deeper into him.

“I should’ve brought you a blanket.”

“I’m okay,” she said, looking up at him.

Kiel couldn’t resist and kissed her. Eloise released a sigh when Kiel pulled away and brushed some stray hair out of her face. He stroked her cheek with the backs of his fingers before leaning in once more to capture her lips with his own. Her arms instinctively reached up, lacing around his neck as he deepened their kiss until neither one of them could breathe.

The sound of the waves crashing against the shore added to their romance as Kiel cupped her cheeks in his hands and caressed them gently. Eloise opened her eyes to meet his gaze. He pulled back slightly to look at her before leaning down for another kiss which became increasingly more sensual by the minute—they were no longer worried about who might be watching or any disruptions—it felt like nothing else mattered but just them enjoying every moment together under purple, pink, and orange sunset on the beachfront.
