Dune stared and then cleared the haze from his eyes. For a minute he thought she was only in her bra but then something clicked in his brain and he realized it was a swimsuit. He made a noise in the back of his throat to warn her he was back. She sat up and smiled.
“It’s so nice out.”
“It is.” He agreed. “One of best times to work on the water.”
“Are we going to work today?” she asked.
“Yeah.” He stowed the parts and then undid the tie lines. Once again, he was at the helm, guiding his boat into the open water.
“I may not know much of anything, but don’t we need to go the other way?” she asked, looking almost frantic.
Dune wanted to laugh but didn’t want her to think he mocked her. Instead he smiled and nodded. “You know more than you let on. And yes, you’re right, but I’m not ready to go to work yet, so I thought we’d take a loop around the island. Besides, there’s something I want to show you.”
As soon as he left the inlet, he pushed the throttle and gained some speed. The boat slapped against the waves, and he smiled when he looked over at Caroline and saw her enjoying herself. He held his hand out for her and she took it. Dune pulled her to stand in front of him and he placed her hands on the wheel.
“I can’t do this!” Caroline looked over her shoulder at Dune. For him, time stood still. He swallowed hard as he stared into her eyes. He had her all wrong. She wasn’t anything like the moniker he had labeled her with. Dune placed his hand on her hip and gave her a little squeeze.
“I’ll be here the whole time. Just keep the boat straight.”
Caroline nodded but waited a moment before turning to face the water. Dune wasn’t a betting man until now.
He bet he would kiss her before the night was over.

If Caroline had one takeaway from her trip so far, it was that Dune Carter would either make or break her vacation. He screamed heartbreaker and even had the nickname to prove it. He was as smooth as the water his boat cut through. But he was also sweet and genuine, and the hold he had on her hip right now sent electrical jolts through her body in complete disorder. She didn’t want to think of him as anything more than her boss, but he made it hard for her to do so.
He was hard.
Caroline adjusted how close she stood in front of Dune. Except the motion from the boat gliding through the water or hitting waves created by other boats did nothing to keep her ass from bumping and grinding against his crotch.
Still, she wouldn’t change where she was. She tipped her head back and welcomed the late morning sun. Behind her, Dune kept his hand firmly on her hip and his lips close to her ear.
“That’s it,” he said to her as he increased their speed. She was thankful her hair was in a braid, otherwise it would go every which way and she’d end up with snarls that would take an hour to brush out.
Caroline leaned into Dune. It was by accident or by the force of waves they hit. It didn’t matter. She liked the way he pressed into her back. He was solid. Muscular and manly. Nothing like the uptight men at Yale who thought wooing a woman meant ordering their food for them.
Caroline looked around and saw they were back in Seaport, or maybe they hadn’t left. Either way, she saw signs for Blue Lobster Adventures and felt a bit sad that her moment with Dune was over. She’d now have to share him with Speed, Ana, Wilson, and the tourists.
“I’m going to show you something before we go to work,” he said loudly enough for her to hear.
Right, work. She had forgotten they still had to work and was curious if Dune ever took a day off or if he was one of those hard workers who went to work every day, regardless.
The surrounding scenery was familiar. Even though she should’ve paid attention to where she directed the boat, she couldn’t take her eyes off the shoreline. People already had their beach umbrellas up, and she assumed kids played in the water. Now that they were back in town, so to speak, there were more boats, people on Jet Skis, and if she wasn’t mistaken, they just honked at one of the Blue Lobster Adventure boats.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“Just over here.” Even though she held onto the steering wheel, Dune moved it between her hands. “Look.” Dune pointed to the cove with overhanging branches.
“Are we going in there?”
He laughed. “No, not today.”
“What is it?”
