“That’s it, baby. Take that dick. You always feel so fucking good. You see why I want you?” I grunted.

My phone rings breaking into my thoughts and pulling me back to the present. Seeing it’s an old buddy of mine, I pick the call up. I haven’t spoken to Jamel in a while.

However, I did run into his brother yesterday. I’m assuming that’s the reason for the call. I haven’t really reached out to anyone to let them know I’m back home.

“Hello.”

“Knight, bro. What’s going on?”

“Hey, Jamel. I’m good. What’s going on with you?”

“Nothing. Living it up and getting it done. You still single, bro?”

I knit my brows. That’s a weird question. Jamel knows I’ve been single for a while, but I have someone I’ve hooked up with off and on for years.

My mind goes to her, and I start to change my mind about wanting to be alone. I would want nothing more than to spend tonight buried deep inside her.

“I guess you could say that,” I reply as I shake my thoughts off.

“Good, good. I need a favor. My girl wants me to hook her friend up with a blind date.

“Troy was going to do it, but his baby mama started some shit and he’s not going to be able to make it out. Bro, I need this favor. I’d owe you big time.”

“You want me to go on a blind date? Tonight?” I scoff.

“Come on, dude. My lady is a baddie. Her girls are all top tier. You won’t be disappointed. I know you have a thing for the sistas. Do me this solid, my guy.”

I sigh. Jamel is a good friend. I guess I do own him one.

“All right. Text me the address.”

CHAPTER 2

Blind Date

Reminisce

“Will you relax?” Sunny, my best friend from kindergarten chides.

I roll my eyes at her. I can’t believe I let her talk me into a blind date. Have I fallen to this level of desperation?

Watching my sister fall in love and my brother get engaged and married to his high school sweetheart has left me feeling someway. Sure, I started my own law firm. My practice is doing very well, but … something’s missing. I feel … empty.

None of the guys I’ve dated bring that spark. Well, all with the exception of one, but he’s different and we’ve never really dated. We’ve had a thing and that can never happen again. Not now.

“How am I supposed to relax? Why won’t you tell me what Jamel told you about this friend? He must be butt fuck ugly. It’s the only reason for you to be this hushed,” I toss at her.

I’m getting agitated. I never should’ve agreed to this in the first place. My life is full of regrets, I tell you.

“Girl, please. I haven’t told you anything because Troy had to back out at the last minute. He had too much drama going on for my liking in the first place. Jamel promised he has a friend he thinks is better suited for you.”

“Why doesn’t that information make me feel any better?” I huff and take another sip of my wine.

“Listen, you said that you didn’t want to go on another date with the stuffy guys your father has been introducing you to. I’m looking out.”

She’s right. This all started with me complaining about the guys my father has been trying to set me up with. I want safe, not boring.

“We’ll see about that. I thought you at least vetted this guy. You’re setting me up with some random, random.”

“He is not random. Jamel said he’s known him for years. He’s just returning from some work assignment overseas or something like that.”

“Okay, so he has a job.”

“Stop tripping. There’s Jamel,” she says excitedly as she points across the restaurant.

I down the rest of my drink and take a fortifying breath before I stand to greet Jamel and his friend. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Sunny’s man, so I take a moment to give him an appreciative once-over.

Sunny is one lucky chick. Jamel is at least six three, dark chocolate, with the nicest, whitest smile I’ve ever seen on a brother. He’s fine, fine. His swag says that Sunny is never lying when she says he beats the breaks off her pussy.

I’m not mad at all at my friend for locking him down. I definitely would have given him my number if I’d met him first. He’s the total package: wealthy, smart, and driven. I guess that’s why I agreed to this blind date.

He checks off so many boxes, I had hoped he runs with guys who’d do the same. Fine, established, and safe. That’s all I ask.

When Jamel wraps his big arms around Sunny and lifts her from her feet, the man standing behind him comes into view. All the air leaves the room.
