“No. I only had one beer, and my car is here.” I leave out the part where I tell her that pretty much my entire life in is my car, and I don’t want to be too far away from it. I also leave out the fact that I’m going home with her brother-in-law. It’s my personal time, so that shouldn’t matter. In fact, it doesn’t.

I want the job, but I want this night with Archer even more.

I’ve never felt this kind of instant connection.

“Well, thank you again for being here. I’ll see you on Monday.”

With a smile and a wave, I head toward the back room to gather my things and wait for Archer. When I make it to the back door, he’s already there waiting on me. As if he’s done it a thousand times before, he takes my camera bag from my shoulder and tosses it over his, then slides his arm around my waist and leads me out to the parking lot.

“Where are you parked?” he asks.

“There.” I point to my ten-year-old Subaru Outback. “The white Subaru.”

“It’s as if the universe is trying to tell us that this is a good idea. That’s me.” He points to the big royal blue truck with a shiny chrome GMC emblem on the front.

He walks me to my car and waits for me to unlock the door. Once I’m settled behind the wheel, he leans in. “I’ll see you at my place. I’ll drive slow so that I don’t lose you.”

“Sounds like a plan.” I reach out for my camera bag, but he steps out of my reach. “I can take that.”

“Nah, this is my insurance.” He winks, and the heat that pools between my thighs is embarrassing.

“You don’t trust me?”

His eyes smolder under the streetlights. “It’s more like I want you too much to risk it.” With those parting words, he stands to his full height. My camera bag is still strung over his shoulder as he steps back to shut my car door. He taps on the roof three times before he walks to the driver’s side of his truck and climbs inside.

My hands shake as I place them on the wheel. Archer flashes his lights and pulls his truck out of his spot. Slowly, I press the gas and follow behind him. All I can think about on the drive is the way his body felt close to mine on the dance floor. I squirm in my seat and huff out a breath.

“You’re acting like a sex fiend,” I mumble as I pull into a driveway behind Archer. He jumps out of his truck and is at my door, tugging it open before I have the chance to turn the engine off.

Archer doesn’t say a word. He simply slides his arm around my waist and leads me inside. It’s not until we’re in his house and the lights are on that I realize my camera bag is once again sitting on his shoulder.

“Thanks for that.” I point to the bag.

“I figured you wouldn’t want it sitting outside in my truck all night.” He places the bag on the kitchen counter.

“You would be correct.”

“Would you like something to drink?”

“So formal,” I tease, partially to torment him and partially to help calm my nerves. I don’t know why I’m nervous. He’s just a man. A very sexy man. One that I just met, yet here I am in his home with him all on my own. Luckily, I spent the entire day with his family, and I’m a good judge of character. My gut never steers me wrong, and my instincts tell me that Archer Kincaid is one of the good guys.

“Polite.” He offers me a sexy grin. “My momma raised me right.”

“You and your eight brothers.”

“Yeah, and for a few years, my cousin Ramsey. She was there at the wedding tonight with her husband, Deacon.”

I nod because I remember meeting her and asking if she was a sister, and she explained that she was a cousin and that her aunt and uncle took her in. She was an adult at the time but needed a safe place to land, and they gladly opened their home to her.

As I said, good people.

“A drink?” he asks again.

“No, thank you.”

“So formal.” He changes his voice to mimic my own.

I chuckle, but it quickly dies on my lips as he steps closer to me. He grips my hips and lifts me to the kitchen island, stepping between my thighs. I could say he pushed in, making room for himself, but I’d be lying. I opened for him. Ready and willing to be close to him.

As he braces his hands on the counter, his gaze locks with mine. “Your eyes. They’re mesmerizing.”

“I’m a sure thing, Popeye.” I fist his shirt and tug him closer. He stands to his full height and pushes his hips forward, where his very hard cock presses against my core. We’re both still fully clothed, and I can tell it’s not just his arms that are huge. “But you have to promise me you won’t fall in love with me. Feelings are messy, and I’m only here for a year.”
