We stand motionless, wrapped around one another in the dark of night. Nothing but the moon and the stars up above. The sound of crickets in the background mix with our heavy breaths.

“That was… better than I had hoped.” Scarlett lifts her head. “Arm porn for the win,” she says cheekily.

I smack her ass with my hand and her pussy pulses. “Let’s get you dressed, and I’ll clean up.”

“Oh. Okay.” I can hear the disappointment in her tone.

“I’m not done with you, Scar. But we both need showers and then I’m taking you in my bed. Nice and slow.”

“Or fast and hard against a wall. Either will do,” she retorts.

“You had me fast, baby. Now I get to savor you.” That’s not something I’d say to someone that I’m hooking up with, and we both know it. However, we both pretend otherwise. I stalk off to the chairs and gather our shoes and clothes. Once we’re both dressed, and I have the condom in an empty grocery store bag from my earlier stop, I get to work cleaning up our supplies.

Scarlett offers to help, but instead, I carry her to the passenger side of the truck and settle her on the seat. “I’ve got it. You stay right here.” I place a kiss on her plump lips and clean up as if a thunderstorm was looming overhead.

Once in the truck, I reach over, taking her hand in mine. I hold on to her the entire drive to my house. The truck is filled with charged silence. We both know that there is more to come once we get to my place, and we’re eager for it.

Pulling into the driveway, I hop out of the truck, and I’m at her door, pulling her into my arms. I toss her over my shoulder, carrying her into the house. Making sure to lock the door, I find my way in the dark to my room, not stopping until I reach the en suite bathroom.

Flipping on the light, I get my first look at her. She has mud on her cheek, her hair is a matted mess of red locks, and her face is flushed. I’m sure I’m fairing the same, if not worse. Reaching into the shower, I turn the water on and slowly start to strip her out of her clothes.

“My turn,” she whispers. There’s something in her eyes that has me wanting to drop to my knees and promise her the world.

That’s impossible. I’ve known her less than a handful of months, but the desire to do just that burns inside me. Just like earlier, I push those feelings to the back of my mind. Scarlett told me not to let this happen. Hell, I don’t know when it happened, just that she’s all I think about, and I know that I’m fucked. She’s wild and carefree, and she has a plan to travel the world with her camera.

I know how this is going to end, but there’s no way in hell I’m going to stop it.

“I’m right behind you,” I tell her, nodding toward the shower. She steps forward and places a kiss on my chest, right over my heart, and I swear the fucking organ screams out her name.

I quickly undress, tossing my clothes in a pile on top of hers, making a mental note to throw them in the washer so she has clean clothes to wear home tomorrow. Stepping into the shower, my hands immediately go to her face, and I kiss her.

This kiss is different. It’s not hurried or feverish. It’s slow and sensual as the warm water cascades over our bodies.

Eventually, I have to pull away. We need to wash off the river water, and then I need her beneath me. Hell, on top of me, beside me… I’ll take this woman any way that I can get her.

“Ready to get out?” I ask.

“Yes.”

Turning off the water, I step out first, not giving a single fuck that I’m getting the floor soaked as I wrap her in a towel, giving her another for her hair before I take one for myself.

“Do you have a hair dryer?”

“I don’t. I’m sorry.”

“I’m going to get your sheets all wet.”

“Baby, we’re going to get them wet regardless.”

She blushes, and I kiss her because I want to. Because, how can I not when she’s standing in front of me looking like a sex goddess with her flushed cheeks?

“Are you hungry? We never ate.”

“No, I’m okay.”

“Thirsty? Do you need anything before we go to bed?”

She raises her hand and rests it against my cheek. “Just you, Archer Kincaid. I just need you.”

I’ve heard my brothers talk about feeling as though their heart was melting, but I never understood what it meant. Sure, I had an idea. They’re all madly in love with their wives, but I think this is it. I think this is what they meant. The moment when you feel ten feet tall and bulletproof with a beautiful woman telling you that you are all that she needs.
