“YOU’RE TALKIN’ CRAZY! I moved that diary ’cause I didn’t want you to believe that shit! It’s lies, Caspian! You gotta believe me! You’re Harrison’s son! That’s the truth!”

“I’m glad you brought that up. You know what’s interesting? You and Harrison are fourth cousins. You’re related. Do you know what that means when it comes to a bloodline, you selfish, lazy, raping, lyin’ son of a bitch? That means that if I were to get a DNA test done, it would show Harrison isn’t the pappy, I found that out firsthand, but we do have some common DNA! WOW! It would show, just like it did, that he ain’t my father, but he IS related to me. What an interestin’ conclusion! Harrison and his son Jasper were right. I do have his nose… but not for the exact reason he thinks. Now, to be a true researcher with concrete facts and science backing me up—’cause the last thing I want to do is be sloppy about my work—I needed to run another test.

“I brainstormed on how to do this. Then, I figured it out.” He smiled and snapped his fingers. “Remember when I bought you that new electric toothbrush and tongue scraper after I got back from the dentist with Noah so he could have another checkup to make sure his fillings were okay? I explained to you how important dental hygiene was. Remember when I marched you into the bathroom, insistent on showin’ you how to use it?” Uncle Bobby’s eyes widened. “I saved some of those cells I scraped off. When you weren’t looking, I bagged ’em up and sent them off to the same DNA lab I used for me and Harrison, for a comparison.

“Imagine how I felt when I read the results. 99.97% motherfucker… You ARE the father! I FUCKIN’ HATE YOU!!!” Rage swelled up inside him, rising to the height of the tallest beach wave ever, and washed across the entire barn, leaving him soaked with loathing. Caspian pulled out a pistol and shot Uncle Bobby in the arm. Point blank range. He grabbed a knife from his kill kit, and began slicing into his fingers and face. WACK! WACK! WACK!

“AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!! FUCK!” Blood squirted then dripped onto the barn floor, mixing with the dirt and dust.

“I can only imagine Aunt Angel’s face when she saw that fuckin’ diary, Uncle Bobby. According to my research, she didn’t know the truth ’til a couple months before she died! Since she was dying, she decided to go through Mama’s old stuff—something she hadn’t had the guts to do before, but she went on and did it for my sake! So I could have a piece of my mama to hold onto. She took out those boxes she’d packed up herself from Mama’s house and told Noah she wanted to prepare something nice for me, for after she died. A care package. And she did just that.

“She didn’t expect to stumble across some shit like that. I’m certain of it. Now, she could have kept that diary after she read it, and tossed it in the trash. She could have burned it. Instead, she did the right thing and put it in a separate box, with a key. Noah made the mistake of telling you right before I arrived in town for her funeral that Aunt Angel had left me something in the basement. You, being the control freak that you are, probably thought, ‘Shit. There might be something down there I don’t want him to see.’ So you found the care box and looked through it. You found something all right. You didn’t like what you saw.

“I’m sure there was a note with it, but there’s no doubt you took that shit, too. Probably tore it up into little pieces. I imagine it was my aunt trying to explain herself, let it be known that she had no idea that all of this had transpired. My God, the guilt she must’ve felt. But it wasn’t her fault. The fault is sittin’ right here in front of me! You kept the diary intact, didn’t get rid of it, because a part of you enjoys readin’ about her pain! You thought you solved the problem by taking the chest out of that box, but you messed up. You made one fatal mistake, you dumb son of a bitch. YOU FORGOT TO TAKE OUT THE FUCKING KEY!”

He snatched it from his pocket and waved it about. “This let me know something wasn’t right. It kept bothering me. Where in the hell did this key come from, and why? I can only imagine poor Aunt Angel having to live with this secret, while sick as she was during her last days! Havin’ to find out that her husband had raped her own damn fraternal twin sister after drugging her! I doubt she knew the worst of it though—it being that you killed my mama!!! AND NOW I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!”
