“I ain’t stuck up. I just keep to myself. You’ve mistaken that for me bein’ stuck up and it ain’t true. I’m tired of you sayin’ it, so stop. I just want some good ol’ cornbread, beans, simple shit.” Caspian waved his hand lazily about, a budding headache getting to him.

“Are you hungry or not? You look like hell, man. Like you ain’t been sleepin’. You probably ain’t been eating because you look smaller than when I saw you at the weddin’.” Legend shot him a suspicious glance, then turned back towards the road.

“I still weigh 248 pounds. Weighed myself this mornin’, actually. Legend, I’m hungry as hell.” He yawned. “Thirsty, too. It’s strange… I didn’t even realize it ’til you brought it up, actually. I’ve been runnin’ on fumes. I’ve had a hard time sleepin’. Your eyes ain’t deceiving you. Only drank coffee the last couple of days because I had shit due and wanted to square it away ’fore I left.”

Legend nodded in understanding.

“Or have you not been sleepin’ ’cause she keeps waking you up? I told you Mrs. Florence ain’t fuckin’ with you. This isn’t a joke. As ridiculous as it sounds, her spirit is back, and this is really happening. She is forcing us to do right on our promises. I don’t know what yours was, but you better get it taken care of before she takes care of you.”

Caspian tossed him a glance and rolled down the window a crack or two.

“You and Axel handled it your way. I’ll handle this mine.”

Legend laughed real easy like. “Naw, mothafucka… I thought I was going to be like that, too. Instead, Mrs. Florence handled me. She sent me a reflection of myself as a child, man. Put it right in my damn bathroom mirror. Scared the livin’ shit outta me. I woke up to cryin’ and screamin’. Disembodied voices. She kept warnin’ me that each time she came to me and I ignored her, it was going to get worse and worse. She delivered. She ain’t never lied. Like I told you when we were heading to my wedding, man. Once you get that feather, she’s on her way. That’s a warning that your time is almost up. Spare yourself and just do what she asked, or things is gonna get ugly.”

“They already got ugly. My aunt, the woman who raised me, is dead, man. Can’t get any uglier than that. I don’t want to talk about the fuckin’ feathers anymore, either, if you don’t mind.” He felt his heart racing, and his face felt tight. “I don’t want to talk about the dreams, or Mrs. Florence. None of it. I got bigger fish to fry.”

Legend shrugged and kept on truckin’. He was surprised the man didn’t have something else smart to say but was grateful for the peace and quiet. It wasn’t long before they arrived at his restaurant, and boy was it a beaut. A large black barn-like building, with huge windows and fancy fixtures outside.

He’s outdone himself. Perfect mix of classiness with old time, Southern charm. He could smell the smokers and see the smolder bellowing in the air from pits chock full of barbecued ribs and chicken. They got out of his car, and Legend charged ahead, like he owned the place. Oh yeah, he did… How beautiful.

Azure grabbed her sheer red shawl from the floor and wrapped it around her chest three good times, covering her long-sleeved red shirt. D’Angelo’s, ‘Really Love’ serenaded her and lavender swirls of cigar smoke and Nag Champa incense flowed around her, tickling her nose and blessing her with the gift of enchanting aroma.

The afterglow of sex made her lady bits tingle and sing. As she slipped her feet into her black ballet shoes, the ones with the red velvet lace on the inside, her gold and black shell anklets rattled against her skin with each movement. So, she shimmied all the more. And then, she sighed… purred into his touch.

Gio ran his ringed hand along her shoulder, kissing softly up and down her neck. His thick locs had come undone from being piled atop of his head during their raucous lovemaking. Tressy tentacles falling over his lean yet muscular frame.

“You comin’ back next week, my sweetness? I’ll be home in a few days from my trip. I can see you then,” he asked in that whiskey smooth voice of his between gentle caresses and pecks. His hard, naked body pressed into her back, and his new budding erection needily throbbed against her.

“I’ll think about it,” she teased, before spinning around and conquering him with a feverish kiss.

They’d been dating for a couple of months, and she finally had an opportunity to get into his schedule for a rendezvous before he was off again, catching a plane for his job. Gio was a training specialist, and according to him, he loved his job almost more than his own mama.
