“Where’s the fun in that? You’d go running, and I’d have to chase after you.” Not that I wouldn’t mind being behind her. Fucking, looking, or running after Josie all seem like a great fucking idea to me.

“Trace, this can’t happen. What about Wes?” I don’t bother responding right away, instead turning the tablet in her direction.

“I’ve got a few plans drawn up to give you an idea. If you like any of them, we can keep going. I know you mentioned hoping to salvage them. They aren’t worth it. The amount of time it would take to paint them or refinish, it’d be cheaper for me to build you new hardwood cabinets.” She slides through the three images, zooming back and forth.

“Cost wise, what are we talking about?”

“Cheapest option would be keeping the same layout, less work to do on the flooring, reusing the appliances, not having to move any lines, water or electrical. The others progressively get more expensive, the last coming in at around eighty thousand, give or take.” She’s worrying her bottom lip, nibbling on it with her teeth. Every damn thing this woman does is a damn turn-on.

“And the first? I’d like to keep as much as I can, the floors especially. The appliances are brand new. Literally. If we can replace the cabinets, countertops, sink and faucet, I’d be happy to keep a semblance of money in my account.” Clearly, she’s worried about the costs.

“Depending on the countertops you chose, the cabinets will cost about five thousand. Everything else will depend on what finishes you want to go with.” I’m giving her a discount, a steep one, too. I’ve got a decent amount of money in the bank, my house is paid off, I live within my means, and I’m not funding my son’s next investment or hairbrained scheme.

“Cheap, but not too cheap, something that will last and I won’t have to replace a year down the road. Are you going to answer my question about Wes or ignore it for another eleven years?”

“Granite, and no, we’re not ignoring it for another fucking second. Wes is engaged. He’s your past, and I’m your future.” I watch to see if the bomb I dropped about my son does anything to Josie. It doesn’t. Not so much as a wince.

“You and I may not have a problem with whatever this is between us, which I’m still going around a merry go round, trying to get off, but each time I do, someone keeps pushing it.” She takes a deep breath, centering herself. “But I guarantee Wes won’t. We also have to come clean. What I did back then, it was cheating,” she states. I can tell it’s weighing down on her, probably has for all these years.

“We will, but not right now. He’s in the middle of planning a wedding, and we’ve got shit to take care of.” The peninsula is the only thing currently in my way. I’m itching to get my hands and mouth on the beauty before me.

“What do you mean we have shit to take care of? If you think I’m okay with picking up where we left of, that’s not okay. I’m not okay. Nothing about this is okay. In case you haven’t noticed, Blue Valley is a small town. I’ve got two grumpy old men with constant watchful eyes, another who checks on me after falling. Which, by the way, I need to fix the front porch step. My kitchen is a mess, I’m not even unpacked, and my yard needs to be done like yesterday, and now—” Josie turns around, giving me her back. Fuck that. She’s overwhelmed. There’s no reason for her to take all this on when I’ve got two capable hands to help her out. I walk around the peninsula, my feet eating up the distance between us until my front presses against her back, and I pull her into my embrace.

“I’ll work on the steps today. The rest we’ll figure out along the way.” I glide my nose along the outer shell of her ear and feel her knees weaken. My hands move from on her upper shoulders and slide lower, one going to her hip, the other to her chin, tipping it over her shoulder, eyes fluttering closed. “Babe, need you to look at me.” Blue eyes meet mine. “I’m going to shut up all that extra noise in your head right now.” My words are the only warning I give her before our mouths meet one another and I spin Josie around, then walk us toward the closest surface possible, needing a repeat of our last time, her legs wrapped around my waist, pussy grinding along my jeans-covered dick.

“Hmm.” She gives me the open I need, tongue seeking entrance, hand gripping the back of her neck, the other sliding beneath her shirt, snaking up her side, thumb sliding along ever so slowly as she whimpers, my tongue stroking hers. Her fingers are digging into my sides, pulling me closer, and I keep walking us backwards until the wall is propping her up.
