He nuzzles his nose into my neck. “I wasn’t asking.”

I reach down between us and wrap my hand around his girth. “We better hurry, then. We’ve got places to be.”

He slides into me, and with each thrust, he tells me he loves me.

It’s not until we’ve showered and are about to walk out the door that I feel the need to remind him, “You know I’m not on birth control, right?”

He grabs my hand. “Yeah, I know.”

I look at him. “And you know that means that I could get pregnant at any time.”

He is looking long and hard at me. “I may not have a lot of experience, but I do know where babies come from, Lucky.”

I lift my shoulders. “Yeah, but I mean, I just wanted to make sure you know and that if it happens, it would be something you wanted, that’s all.”

He smiles at me. “Do you want to have my baby?”

I let out a big breath, conveying my emotion. “More than anything.”

He puts a hand at the side of my neck. “That’s how I feel. I want to experience it all with you, Lucy.”

I loop my arms around his waist. “I love you, Dominic Evans.”

“I love you too, Lucky.”

EPILOGUE

DOMINIC

It’s been three months since Lucy moved back into town, and it’s been a whirlwind ever since. I have the garage, and Lucy has her new job that she’s loving. We bought a house in the same neighborhood as Lucy’s mom, and Walker took care of the whole thing with Ray. It seems he’s serving a life sentence in prison, and I didn’t have to step one foot in a courtroom.

For all purposes, my life is going pretty great.

I flip the pancake on the griddle and hear Lucy holler my name. “Dominic Evans!”

I just smile. It sounds like she’s found my surprise.

She comes walking into the kitchen. Her hair is mussed, she has a crease on her cheek from sleeping on her pillow, and she has shock registered on her face. Yep, she found it.

She holds up her hand. “Is this what I think it is?”

She’s pointing at her ring finger. Or technically, the ring that is on her ring finger.

I lean in and act like I’m getting a closer look. “That’s an engagement ring.”

She stomps her feet. “I know what it is. What is it doing on my finger?”

I lean down and kiss her cheek and then pat her butt while I’m at it. “We’re getting married.”

She holds up both hands. “I’m sorry, what?”

I blow out a breath, put the last of the pancakes on a plate, and turn off the stove. “Okay, hear me out.”

She crosses her arms over her chest. “I’m listening.”

“I told you when you were ready, we would get engaged. I’ve thought about it a hundred different ways. What if you say you’re not ready, what if you say no, there were so many what ifs that I was going crazy with it. So I figured I would just put the ring on your finger. You could wear it, and when you were ready, you could pick a date.”

She blinks up at me. “You thought I’d say no?”

I hate it when those old insecurities come up. It was killing me that she didn’t have my ring on her finger. “I didn’t know.”

She still has her arms across her chest, and there’s not a smile on her face. Hell, I can’t tell if she’s still mad or not. Did I just fuck up big time?

She presses a hand to her stomach and takes a breath. “Ask me.”

“What?”

She nods. “Ask me now.”

My heart starts to race, and I break out in a cold sweat. Oh hell, here we go. I drop to one knee because isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? I’ve planned out every second of this moment, but I’m coming up blank. I have to wing it. “When I first met you, I wanted to be special. I didn’t want to call you Lucy like everyone else, so I called you Lucky because I knew I was lucky to be in your life. I’ve wasted so much time, and I don’t want to waste another minute. I want to spend my life with you, I want you to have my babies, I want everything with you. I promise that if you say yes, you will never regret it a day in your life. I mean, yeah, I’m going to fuck up, but you will never have any doubt that I love you.” I suck in a breath and let it out slowly, feeling like I’m going to pass out. “Will you marry me, Luciana?”

She gets down on her knees so we’re at the same level. “I’ve been waiting for months for you to ask me this, Dom. Yes, I’ll marry you.”

I gasp and throw my arms around her. She melts into me, and I let my tears flow because the emotions coursing through me are too much to bear. “I love you,” I repeat over and over.
