We were lying naked in bed, me on my stomach and him on his back, finding comfort in the silence. We both knew our time together was fixing to end. Luke had to go back to Lake Charles, and we were not sure when he would return.

“Is there something you want to tell me, babe? Are you worried about something?” Luke asked, turning his body over onto his side, and tucking my hair behind my ear. I did, but he had so much to deal with already. The last thing he needed to be worried about was my assumptions that someone was out to get me. “Dallas, if I couldn’t handle you and the club I wouldn’t have you both. If there is something you need, then I am the man you talk to. But I can’t help you if you don’t tell me.” I studied his eyes, which were pleading with me to be honest. This is what Luke did. He was my protector. Why couldn’t I let him do his job?

“You just have so much on you. I don’t want to be a burden,” I said, my voice barely audible, and weak.

“Dallas, don’t you give me that shit. You’re not a burden. You are my girl, my love, my property. It’s my job to protect you, and it fucking hurts to know that you don’t trust me with that. Have I not proved the lengths I will go to make sure you are taken care of?” Great, Dallas. Hurt his feelings and take his pride, why don’t you. Oh, and while you’re at it, grab his balls.

“It’s not that I don’t trust you, Luke. It’s just that you have already sacrificed so much for me and now your club needs you, and I don’t want to be the reason you can’t be with them,” I said, swirling my finger over his chest, and using my eyes to will him to understand my point.

“You need to stop fucking listening to Red. Do you think you are the only one of the ol’ ladies with problems? Every man in this club has had to deal with shit. Just because I have shit going on with the club doesn’t mean I can’t take care of you too, babe. I need you to trust me and tell me what’s going on.”

“I’m afraid there’s someone out there who wants to kill me,” I blurted, my lip shaking as the realization of my words hit home. When I had spoken to the mayor, it hadn’t hit me. When I had talked to Charlie, my safety was the last thing on my mind. Now that I had confessed my darkest fear to Luke, it occurred to me how serious this situation was. I could lose my life. Before, I didn’t have time to prepare for it. Now that I was almost positive it could happen, I freaked out.

“Babe, no one is going to hurt you. What makes you think that?” Luke asked, running his finger over my trembling lip, and catching a stray tear with his thumb.

“Frankie hated me, Luke. What if he set something up before he died? What about the guys who were with him?”

“Dallas, if anyone wants to get to you, they’re going to have to come through me. Don’t live your life in fear. There’s no one looking for you.” Luke offered me a reassuring smile, and I nodded. I trusted Luke, and if he said no one was looking, than no one was. He would protect me, just as he always had. I was going to be okay.

Chapter 11

Luke

I spent the night with Dallas for two reasons, one I didn’t want to leave her upset and two, I needed her just as much as she needed me. I didn’t want the company of any other woman, although it was offered to me every day. Lake Charles had some fine bitches that were willing to warm my bed with no strings attached, but I couldn’t do it. I only wanted one bitch warming my bed and sucking my cock, and it just so happened that I loved her, so it made it easy to turn down other women. I had panicked when I had heard that Dallas had been on board Charlie’s plane, but my panic was soon replaced with pure fucking anger when I found out she was home and safe. I let Ronnie know I would be back in the morning and took off, leaving him shaking his head and muttering how I needed to put my ol’ lady in her place. How could Dallas be so stupid as to go to Charlie, and what the fuck made her think she could get away with it? She needed to be taught a lesson, and since I wasn’t a man who put my hands on a woman, I had to find a way to let her know I was tired of her shit. Spanking her brought out my dominant demons, but at least I got my fucking point across. I only wished that I had cooled down a little before I had done it. But thank fuck she got the fucking picture. Now, she was freaking out about someone being after her, and it took all I had not to tell her the truth. I had to convince her everything was fine to keep her away from Charlie and to keep her from living a life of fear, when in reality, she should be. There was someone out there who was looking for Dallas, and I knew it just like I knew her pussy was the sweetest I’d ever tasted. It was something I thought about every day, but I would never let her know that. Charlie wasn’t the only man with connections, but I was sure his were better than mine. The phone call I knew I was going to have to make to him made me sick to my fucking stomach, but it had to be done. I would pay whatever price necessary to protect Dallas, and the penalty charged would not come cheap.
