Pria was another story though. She was about Jessina’s age but she was extremely quiet and withdrawn. I remembered her when we were all younger—I always saw her at the Clan gatherings. Back then she’d been happy and loud and funny—an extrovert’s extrovert. And then, when she was around thirteen or fourteen cycles old, something seemed to change in her. The next time I’d seen her, she’d gone silent, barely saying a word to anyone.
I had always wondered what had happened to her—what had made her lose her sparkle. I had mentioned it once to Rath, but that was before he’d earned his silver horns and become her bodyguard, so he seemed as much in the dark as I was.
And now the two of them had been seen in public kissing. I really hoped that Pria’s mother, the current Chieftain of Clan Vicious, would forgive the indiscretion. Hell, I might do that anyway. I was tired of the dirty business of smuggling and ready to settle down and raise a family.
No matter what happened, I knew things were going to work out. Jessina and I were Soul-Bound now and nobody and nothing would ever tear us apart.
