“Dude, I don’t think Brute is going to like this,” Sarge said.

“Either go inside and wait for me, or get in. The choice is yours, but I’m ending this bullshit tonight.”

He climbed behind the wheel and told Raine to give him the address. She stumbled over the address, but he knew where he was going. Much to his surprise, Sarge climbed into the back of the car.

“Please, please, I swear, I called Dinah because I thought she would enjoy the party, and I asked her to come.”

“In curlers?” Road asked.

He wasn’t going to be lied to.

“Okay, I might have told her I was afraid, but I did it to get her here, I didn’t think she would still be curling her hair, but … Dinah is Dinah. Please let me go. I’m so sorry. I just wanted to have a good time.”

“Shut the fuck up,” Road said.

“I don’t think you’re acting right,” Sarge said.

“You can shut up as well. I know exactly what I’m doing.”

He drove all the way to Dinah’s house and pulled the car to a stop.

It was a small place, a single floor, no stairs, like a bungalow. A small garden in the front, and he imagined it was the same in the back. A nice place to raise a family or grow old in. Strange, as it was something he had always wanted as well.

Sergey was a piece of work, and he knew how to put people in place and use them when the time was right.

He climbed out of the car, telling Sarge to stay in it.

His gun was in the back of his pants. First, he would get the answers he needed, and then he’d decorate the damn house red.

“Road, I don’t like this.”

“Stay in the car. If she tries to escape, kill her.” He climbed out of the car and headed toward Dinah’s house.

Staring at the bell, he didn’t question himself, he just rang it.

Chapter Two

Dinah should have known that going to the Evil Fallen Bratva would have consequences, but she didn’t think it would be having fingers wrapped around her throat, cutting off her air supply. The man she’d seen in the corridor was looking at her like she was scum as he suddenly let go of her throat.

“When did Sergey approach?” he asked.

This confused her. Sergey? What?

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Getting her words out was a struggle. He let go of her neck long enough for her to speak, but then she cried out as he tightened his grip. Fear ran down her spine.

This man wasn’t thinking clearly, and she could only react. Her mother had always taught her to be ready, so she brought her knee up, taking the man off guard. While he was grabbing at his junk, she ran into her sitting room and got a fire-poking tool. She had never used it, but her mother had purchased it at some antique store. Dinah had been unable to say no to her, and now as she held the steel rod in her grip as the scarred man approached, she was ready to strike.

“Get the fuck out of my house, or I swear I will make you wish you had never been born.”

Only, she hadn’t been prepared for the gun suddenly pointed at her. Still, he could be a crap shot, and there was no way she was backing down from this. She held onto her poking tool and glared at him.

“I don’t know who you are, but I suggest you start talking.” She didn’t have a cell phone and there was no way to call for help. She wouldn’t risk hurting her neighbors.

“I start talking, why don’t you tell me what Sergey’s plan is?”

“I don’t know a Sergey.”

He loaded his weapon and she stared right at him. “You expect me to believe that?”

“I don’t give a fuck what you believe, but I can promise you, I do not work for any Sergey. I work at a beauty salon that specializes in hair, beauty, and spa treatments. My name is Dinah Evans, and I’ve been working there for five years, and I even started my schooling. I don’t know who you think I am, but look around, this is who I am. I have lived here my whole life. This is my mother’s home. I don’t know who you are.”

He kept looking at her. “You didn’t care about my scars,” he said, gritting his teeth.

She frowned. “All of this because I didn’t flinch?”

“Her mother was attacked,” Raine said.

Dinah turned to the doorway to see her friend and another guy wearing a leather jacket, who she could only assume was part of the Evil Fallen Bratva MC.

The man in front of her didn’t move a muscle. “I told you to stay back in the car.”

“Dude, you’ve got this all wrong. Dinah’s a professional hairstylist,” the other man said, lifting his cell phone.
