But the shift didn’t stop there. Eric decided being King wasn't for him, so he gave up his place in the line of inheritance, and instead, it’s Ella who will ascend the throne when the day comes. Then, Eric decided to leave the “family business” altogether, and started his own trading firm. Business is booming, and he’s actually tripled the royal family’s personal fortune, believe it or not.
But it’s not terrible or anything. The Chromian royal family has been surprisingly tolerant, and we’re still a part of the family – we even live in the castle – but we just don’t take on ceremonial duties anymore. It’s for the better because Eric was always conflicted about being King anyways, and he's much happier running his own business than he would have been running a country.
At that moment, the front door opens and my heart leaps. Eric must be home early.
“Honey,” he calls out from the living area. I quickly exit the nursery, closing the bedroom door behind me.
“Shhh,” I say softly with a smile. “The baby’s sleeping.”
My husband’s gorgeous as usual in a dark suit that highlights his broad shoulders and massive frame. His black hair is swept back, and those blue eyes flare as he takes in my curvy figure.
“I'm sorry,” he whispers as he wraps his arms around me. He plants a kiss on my lips, and I can’t help smiling because the gentle kiss barely hides the hunger beneath. Sure enough, those azure eyes flash as we pull away, my husband’s handsome features already taut with need.
“I missed you,” he rasps.
“I missed you, too,” I reply, staring into his ravenous gaze.
“My God, you're still the most beautiful woman I've ever laid eyes on,” he growls. There go those damn butterflies, fluttering all around.
“Oh, Eric, you're just saying that,” I murmur as I playfully push him away. “You know I haven’t lost twenty pounds of the baby weight yet!”
But my husband won’t be stopped, and pulls me back into his embrace.
“Yes, but you’re even more beautiful this way,” he rasps while kissing my throat. “I mean it. You’re gorgeous, Kitty, and I'm so lucky to have you,” he growls. Then, he kisses me again as he caresses my curves. It quickly turns intense as our lips lock with a fiery passion, and my husband’s big hand goes up to stroke a nipple before tugging it taut beneath my thin sweater. I throw my head back and moan, already grinding my hips against his hardness. Goodness. Even though I just gave birth, it seems like I need this man even more than ever, and my clit throbs as I rub it against his stiff package.
All of a sudden, Haley fusses from down the hall, and we both turn toward the closed bedroom door.
“Ignore her,” I whisper against my husband’s lips. “She’ll calm down on her own, don’t worry.”
But then, Haley squawks a bit, and this time, it’s Eric who pulls away with a grin.
“Oh my god, she’s got you wrapped around her finger,” I tease.
My handsome man nods.
“She does,” he says with a peck to my lips. “Baby, I've got her. It’ll just take a second.”
“Are you sure?” I ask.
“Of course, I'm sure. You've been with her all day, Kit, so let me just grab her real quick,” he says. Then, he winks before striding down the hall to open the nursery door. Eric disappears into the darkened room for a moment before reappearing with our sweet girl cradled in his strong arms. The baby coos as she looks into her father's eyes, and Eric’s a total goner. He adores his daughter, and rocks her back and forth as he gently caresses her cheek.
“You’re going to have a hard time when Haley hits her adolescent years,” I warn. “Trust me, teenage girls are no joke.”
Eric merely shrugs and smiles while bouncing our girl up and down.
“Maybe so, but until then? I'm the luckiest man in the world,” he says. “I have the most gorgeous wife in the world and a beautiful, healthy daughter too.”
“No, babe. I'm the lucky one,” I counter with an indulgent smile.
He grins.
“We’re both lucky, Kitty. But seriously, I want to give you the world,” he says. “Well, that and a lot of babies in your belly, of course.”
“Oh my god, we just had number one!” I giggle. “We need to wait a little, for propriety’s sake, before we start on number two. But there is one thing that I do want actually.”
“Name it. Whatever it is, you can have it,” Eric promises, blue eyes flashing. I take a deep breath before meeting his gaze.
“Well, I’d still like to go to college one day,” I confess. “Right now, Haley is too young for me to leave her, but once she's a little older, I'm thinking of taking classes at a nearby university. What do you think?”
