It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the city and I remember that I hate the noise here. I run my hand down my face. I brush my nose along her hair again and calm falls over me instantly. Fuck, this isn't good. I’ve known this girl two seconds and I already feel a need to be close to her. Something about her soothes something deep inside of me, a restlessness that I hadn't realized was there until she calmed it.

I don’t know if I want to curse Sam or thank him. I take another deep breath of her sweetness, and she mumbles something in her sleep, letting out a little sigh that does nothing to help my aching cock. I settle on thanking Sam, even with the pain between my legs growing worse by the second.

Sam opened up a bodyguard agency right after we both left the FBI. He tried to get me to come on board for years, but after what felt like a lifetime in the FBI and the accident that had put me on my ass for months, I just wanted to be alone and headed back home to Colorado where my grandfather raised me.

I spent the last few years building my home and doing occasional consulting jobs for the FBI. I have an eye for catching things no one else does. They send me cases they’re stuck on. I look them over and give them my thoughts. It wasn't like I was hurting for money and needed a fulltime job. My grandfather who raised me knew I didn’t want to go into the family business selling construction equipment. He didn’t particularly care that I didn’t want to take it over. He always wanted me to do whatever it was that I wanted, and since I was a young boy I’d been drawn to law enforcement.

He’d sold the company off a few years before he passed, leaving me more money than I would ever spend in twenty lifetimes. I’m a simple man and have barely touched what he left behind except for the family land where I built my new home over the past few years pretty much single handedly. There’s something about working with my hands that calms me. Now all I can think about is working my hands over the pretty girl who has shifted and is now lying across my lap.

I stroke her honey-blonde hair, my fingers sliding across the streaks of copper in it. I know I’m getting myself in too deep with this girl. She doesn't belong to me. Sam sent me her folder along with my plane ticket to New York, and from reading that it looks like she belongs to the world.

What hit me hard were the pictures of her on dates. I’d never experienced jealousy before seeing those. What’s worse is that I felt it for a girl I didn’t know. But I need to get my head on straight because my pretty girl has gotten herself a stalker. Not some run-of-the-mill crazy fucker either. No, she has one with a few tricks up his sleeve, like popping locks, hacking alarm systems and dodging security cameras.

I’m not shocked she has stalkers. When her picture hit my desk, I myself started stalking. At least I could say mine was work. I would never want to harm her. Whoever this is is angry. From the messages they’ve sent and the things they’ve done to her home in Beverly Hills, it’s clear this fucker is a psycho. From what I gather he won't stop until he gets what he wants, or we catch him. I have hopes of getting my hands on him first.

I let myself slide back into bodyguard mode as we pull up to the hotel. “Get the door,” I tell Rye, who nods, gets out of the car and opens my door. Slowly I turn Mila, putting her into my arms as I step out of the car. Taking a look around, I enter the hotel and go straight for the elevator.

Rye hits the button and the door opens instantly and we step on. When we hit our floor, I don’t take her to her room. Instead I take her to my suite. Rye opens the door for me and I place her down on the bed, then do a sweep of the suite before we both exit.

“Watch the door. I’ll be back in five,” I tell him then head for her room to collect her things. When I step inside I do another sweep but find nothing. I locate one open suitcase next to the bed. I toss everything I find around the room inside before heading into the bathroom and grabbing her other stuff.

I make a quick call to room service to get her something to eat and then heading back to her room. Rye doesn't say anything but raises his eyebrows at me with a smirk.
