“Shouldn’t we do something about the cash first?” Dix pushes away from the bar with a beer in his hand, nodding toward the metal boxes at his feet.

“In a minute,” he growls at the VP, who frowns in return.

“What’s up, man?” Dix’s brows drop, and his face shifts into a mask of concern. Other than Shades, no one knows Ace as well as Dix.

The Prez flashes a grin that holds not one fucking ounce of amusement, and I can tell.

He knows.

“What’s up?” Ace looks around the room, his expression growing darker by the second. “What’s up is last night we ran a rescue mission to get Preacher’s girl from Hector.”

“Fuck yeah,” Joaquin grins. “Too bad we missed it.”

“We could’ve used the manpower, but we managed to grab the girl, the laptop, and the man himself.”

“No shit,” Dix and Joaquin say at the same time.

“No shit,” Ace growls. “Which brings me to my next fucking question. Who in the fuck killed Hector when I explicitly said that I wanted him kept alive until I said otherwise?” He looks around the room at each of us, fury emanating from every inch of his body. “You all know someone will answer for this.”

Every last one of us had a damn good reason to want Hector dead, even Ace, but there was no fucking way that any of us would disobey a direct order, especially one this important.

I step forward, and a few of my brothers let out groans as if they think I did it. “I wanted to kill him,” I admit to Ace. “In fact, I slipped out in the middle of the night and went to The Chamber to see if I could do it, but the place was empty.”

“What do you mean empty?” Ace folds his arms over his chest and scowls.

“I mean that the prospects I thought were supposed to be guarding the place were nowhere to be seen. I went inside. It was dark, and when I turned on the light, he was staring up at me with dead eyes and a slit throat.”

My brothers know that’s not my style. I’ll kill when I have to, but that shit is too messy.

“Thanks for letting me know.”

I nod. “It was too late to disturb you, but that’s what I wanted to talk to you about. Where were the prospects, and who told them it was all right to go?”

“Good fucking question,” Ace asks and glances around the room again. “I’m not accusing anyone, not yet, but if anybody has any fucking ideas about who has the juice, no, the goddamn balls to get the prospects to disobey a brother, I want to know.”

“At least you know it wasn’t me,” Joaquin jokes with a crooked smile.

Ace sends a glare to Joaquin. “This is serious, Joaquin, and there will be consequences. Big fucking consequences,” he says and looks around the room because the rest of us know the penalty for this kind of shit.

The worst kind.

“If you say it’s none of you, then I expect someone to find something out. Soon.” Without another word, Ace grabs two of the boxes and turns to leave the clubhouse with Dix on his heels.

Before he leaves, Dix turns to the rest of us. “Find the motherfucker responsible for this, even if he is one of us. Hell, especially if he’s one of us.”

With one last look, he walks off, leaving the rest of us wondering if there’s a traitor among us.

And if there is, someone is going to die.
