Poor, poor, Simon.

He truly thought there would only be one in our family.

Grinning at Johnathan as we get out of his pickup truck, I ask, “Do you happen to have a pry bar, my dearest friend?”

Johnathan looks at me like I just threw a dead rat at him before he groans. “What the fuck did you just get me into?”

I shrug my shoulders in feigned confusion. “Why… I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

Simon storms out of his house and points at the large crate. “I want whatever this thing is out of here. It’s blocking Meredith’s car and she has plans with Beth today.”

Nodding my head, I follow Johnathan as he grabs a pry bar from the back of his truck.

Handing it to me, Johnathan says, “Whatever that is, it better put a smile on someone’s face.”

Oh, it definitely will, I think to myself.

And just this tiny bit of mischief causes the nagging voices inside of me to cackle.

Walking over to the box, I glance at Simon. “As soon as I retrieve the contents, we will take the crate away. Meredith’s day of fun will not be stalled any further.”

Pushing the pry bar into the front corner of the crate, I work on removing the front panel. I wish I could make them stand back and do some type of grand reveal. But Simon’s curiosity, even if angered, is too much for him to allow that type of thing.

Cracking off the front panel then a side panel, I hear a deep inhale of surprise from Johnathan and absolute silence from Simon.

Turning my back on the motorcycle sitting in the crate, I look to see their reactions.

Johnathan grins at me as he moves forward to rip the top off the crate and push the other sides down.

Chuckling, he says, “That’s a fucking beautiful girl you got there. Indian Chief Bobber Dark Horse with a dual seat. Fuck, I’m betting that cost a pretty penny.”

Shrugging my shoulders, I look at Simon’s reddening face. “I forgot they said they owed me.”

“I’ll neuter the whole fucking club,” Simon hisses before turning sharply away from me and heading into his garage to do whatever the Spider does.

Moving to the black backpack that sits right next to the beautiful motorcycle, I pick it up and rummage through it. Inside I find a helmet, gloves, a letter, and a patch that says ‘Friend of RBMC’.

Opening the letter up, I read the words quickly from Coy. It’s only a short note saying to enjoy the ride and try to piss off Simon, if possible.

Smiling to myself, I hand Johnathan the note then pull the helmet over my head. It fits perfectly and it’s my favorite color, black.

“I’ve got a tank of gas in the back of the truck,” Johnathan says as he lifts a discarded side of the crate. “I was going to use it for mowing the lawn but I’ll fill up later.”

Removing the helmet, I set it on the handlebar of the bike and carefully push the bike off the crate box floor.

Simon comes stomping out of the house just as we finish cleaning up his driveway.

Holding out a piece of plastic and a couple sheets of paper, he thrusts them into my hands. “Motorcycle license and insurance papers.”

I pull my wallet from my back pocket. “Thank you.”

“Make sure to get a tracker too from Simon,” Johnathan says. “Some lowlife pile of shit tried to steal my bike and we hunted the fucker down with my phone.”

A small smirk appears on Simon’s face as Johnathan talks, and I can only guess at the mischief they got up to.

“I do believe, with all the deformities he has now, that man will never try riding a motorcycle again,” Simon says.

Everything in me stills. It’s as if the whole world freezes for a moment and I get a flashback of when I stole Eden’s phone.

I left that phone in my car.

The very same car I was chased down and attacked in.

Shaking my head, I watch Simon and Johnathan smiling at some memory and hear a clamor of alarm bells ringing in my head.

“Did you strip my car of my belongings before it got towed away?” I ask Simon.

Looking at me in confusion, he says, “Of course.”

I turn to Johnathan. “I took Eden’s phone from her and I left it in that car. It must have a tracker on it or some app.”

Johnathan snaps his fingers as he follows the steps in my brain. “That’s how they found you. They didn’t just pop up on you by chance, they knew where you were the whole time. They set the place of your ambush by simply circling you. They just had to wait. That’s why they didn’t send heavy hitters in. They didn’t need to.”

“Where’s the phone now?” I quickly ask Simon.
