Trying to get past all of the hoopla this is becoming, I say, “I need a woman’s help in getting the house ready for occupancy.”

“Occupancy…” Beth says. “You sound a little too clinical.”

“Okay. I need it to look less like I live here and more like a family could live here,” I say. “I have money.”

“You mean you want me to go shopping to decorate your house,” Beth asks carefully. “To decorate it.”

“Yes,” I answer.

“Oh, thank fuck it’s not me paying for it.” Johnathan laughs. “You have no idea what you’re asking for, Jude.”

“Shush,” Beth says to him. “We’re discussing a shopping spree here.”

Spree.

The only spree I’m familiar with is a killing spree. Is that what my credit card is going to feel like when it’s done with all the spending I feel coming on?

“What’s my limit?” she asks.

“On?” I ask back.

“Your card.” Beth clarifies. “What’s the credit limit?”

“I don’t really know, I rarely use it. It should be like the one Johnathan has.”

“Oh.” Beth giggles. “Yeah, that can work. I’ll call the girls.”

“Good,” I say and then add, “I’ll drop everything you need off in that garden pot you use to hide your spare keys.”

“How do you know where I hide my spare keys?” Johnathan asks me quietly.

“Have a good night,” I say quickly and disconnect.

I know everyone’s house in the family, or at least the outside of them.

My hands grip the wheel tightly as I slowly drive by Eden’s small townhome.

It’s not much to look at, honestly. None of the townhouses on this street are.

The area around here though is clean, well-lit, and looks can be deceiving. I get the feeling that it’s one of the safer places to live.

Community watch signs are posted around the complex, and it gives my skin the creepy crawlies. It’s not like they know that I’m prowling here, but that doesn’t make the feeling go away.

I suppose James was right, he can’t evict women and children. I don’t blame him, but it makes my task of acquiring her a bit harder.

I must have her.

It’s nonsensical in a way. I don’t know this woman. I don’t know her life. I don’t know her period.

But I must have her.

The dark voices inside my thick skull will allow nothing else.

This won’t be a one-night thing, either. Just the memory of the brief time we spent together in that alley has my body as hard and tense as a tightly wound coil.

I need her near me.

And to prove that point, I’m sitting here, driving around her streets, trying to find an easy place to hide so I can watch her.

But everything here is too tightly packed in. All the townhouses connect to each other in long rows.

Eden’s home sits between three on each side.

There are no back alleys, no places where I can slip in.

Everything is either tightly packed together or open space with no coverage. This had to be by design. The people here can see everything around them and not have to worry about hidden predators.

Fuck.

Slamming my fist on the steering wheel, I turn out of the little community and drive back to my house.

My cock and balls ache even harder now that I’ve been so damn close to her and I’m forced to leave because I can’t hide anywhere.

I need to see her again. I need to feel that luscious body pressed hard against me. To feel my cock pushing against her.

I almost hope she does try to run.

Because when I catch her, there will be nothing to stop me from keeping her.

Keeping her and making her mine.

Eden

To go to work as promised or hit the road with Abel and take my chances?

Both choices way heavily on my mind all night and keep me from getting any sleep.

It’s not a decision I can make lightly.

On the surface, running seems to be the wisest choice, and probably what most people in my position would do.

But if I run and get caught, I’m dead. Everyone will be after me. Not just Jude and his friends, but also my own uncle and his client.

A client I know absolutely know nothing about. For all I know it could the entire Russian mafia.

Abel and I will have to spend the rest of our lives in hiding, always looking over our shoulders to survive.

In order to stand a chance, we’ll need new identities, and those things don’t come cheap.

Not to mention I don’t even know where to get them.

I already know what my uncle wants me to do.

After rushing home and picking up Abel, I immediately sent him a text letting him know what happened. I was hoping he would call the whole thing off. Maybe even offer me some money for the services I’ve already rendered.

Or let me off the fucking hook.

But no.

What I’ve done isn’t enough.

They need more and I better deliver.
