I stop and stare at him for a moment because why did he call me Mrs. Barker? But then I realize that that it’s likely an innocent mistake. Rolly and Roland actually have the same name, and they probably think that I’m Roland’s wife, and not his daughter in law. Whew! Relief makes my frame sag because this is ideal. It doesn’t look fishy at all if a wife comes for a conjugal visit, whereas a daughter in law arriving on her own might raise eyebrows.
With one last relieved smile, I grab my stuff and then exit the visitor’s trailer before making my way to Cabin 2. I step onto the stoop of the small structure, and then knock softly.
“Come,” comes a low rasp from inside, and the door swings open to reveal my handsome man seated at the kitchen table. Roland’s even more gorgeous than I remember with his black hair swept off that high forehead, and those piercing blue eyes shooting straight to my soul. My heart races as I throw myself into his arms, even as his mouth claims mine in a sensual kiss.
“The door wasn’t even shut yet,” my man chuckles with one eyebrow quirked when we finally break away. “Miss me much?”
I merely giggle before slapping him lightly on that broad chest with a small hand.
“Oh you,” I say. “You know I missed you.”
With another smile, Roland stands and scoops me up, swinging me around as I titter again, my breasts smashed against his chest. He buries his face in my neck and breathes deep of my female fragrance, that hard masculine form making a thrill run down my spine.
“I’m happy to see you too, sweetheart,” he rasps. “But where’s Rolly? Why isn’t my son here today?”
He puts me down and I giggle again before pushing my hair out of my face.
“Well, you might want to take a seat before I tell you because there’s good news and bad. But I promise, all of it’s insane.”
Roland nods, folding his big form up at the table, his expression expectant.
“Sure, what is it, babe? What’s the good and the bad? I’m ready for anything.”
I sit down as well, inhaling deeply before meeting those piercing blue eyes.
“Well, I’m not sure if this first piece is good or bad, but Rolly and I are getting a divorce,” I say in one rush of breath. “We decided that we weren’t meant to be, and it was an amicable parting. I’ve already contacted a divorce attorney, and the wheels are turning on that whole process.”
Roland looks thoughtful as he nods.
“I see,” he says in a low tone. “So the marriage wasn’t working out, hmm?”
I shoot him a lopsided smile.
“Clearly not, seeing what I did with you the last time I was here. But there’s more to it,” I add, bracing myself before meeting his eyes. “You see, I went over to Rolly’s dorm to ask for the divorce, but I caught your son with another woman. In bed,” I clarify.
Roland’s black brows shoot up then.
“Are you serious? But you’re so gorgeous, honey. It seems insane that he would want someone else.”
I nod, cheeks flushing.
“Thanks, but that’s not the only crazy part. I caught him with his TA, and this wasn’t a TA who’s a pretty twenty-five-year-old. His TA is a fifty-something MILF. I mean, I don’t know if she’s actually a mother, but she’s definitely at least twice his age and looks it too. In fact, she even has one of those “mom” haircuts like Kate from Jon & Kate Plus 8.”
My boyfriend frowns
“From what?”
I laugh lightly.
“Oh, it’s just a TV show about a family with sextuplets. But yes, your son is evidently attracted to much-older women, and I found him in bed with a lady double his age.”
To my surprise, Roland nods, but he doesn’t look surprised.
“Wait, aren’t you weirded out?” I ask. “I mean, I realize we’re in a May December thing as well, but I didn’t know that Rolly might be into hot cougars. It’s a first for me.” Roland lets out a sigh then, looking down at the table top. “What is it?” I press. “Am I missing something?”
The handsome man shoots a rueful smile my way.
“You don’t know much about the Warners, do you?”
I scrunch my brow.
“Who are they?”
He lifts his eyebrows and grins again.
“Dorinda’s folk. Rolly’s mother’s family. The Warners are strange, and all I can say is that my son takes after his mom. Dorinda has always dated men who have one foot in the grave, for as long as I can remember actually. Evidently, our hook-up was an “exception” in her book, and while our one-night fling was fine, she was going back to her regulars. So yes, even when Dor was in her twenties, she was already attracted to much-older men.”
I nod slowly.
