“I had to make sure.”
Molly held Dahlia out at arm’s length and studied her for a minute. Then she shook her head. “You also wanted to get out from under Dad’s thumb, didn’t you?”
Dahlia winced. “I swear, it was mostly about warning you, but since he’s already pissed at me for covering for you, I’m gonna take off and meet some friends in Europe for the summer.”
Molly laughed and was about to say something else when a man raced up the driveway from the compound gate and ran straight toward my woman.
He beat me to her by seconds, but I skidded to a halt when the sun glinted off metal, and I saw the gun he’d pressed to her temple. It was the little shit who was obsessed with her.
In the next second, I had my Glock pointed at his head. “Let her go,” I said in a deadly voice. “Can’t say you're gonna leave here in good condition, but if you get your hands off my woman right the fuck now, you’ll leave alive.”
Fritz tightened his arm around Molly, making her gasp for breath. The punk’s chances of getting out of this alive dwindled. “I’m going to walk right out of here, and nobody is going to touch me,” he announced haughtily. “Molly and I are meant for each other, and nothing you do can stop us from being together. We love each other.”
He looked behind me, and his smug expression slipped for a second. I had no doubt that my brothers had come outside and were at my back.
“Are you delusional, asshole? How the fuck do you think you’re gonna get past us unscathed?”
“Because you won’t hurt Molly,” he answered, his tone slightly wobbly. “She and I are leaving, and if any of you attempt anything, I’ll kill her.”
My jaw clenched, but it was the only outward sign of my inner turmoil. I remained calm, almost detached, so he wouldn’t realize that he had the upper hand as long as my woman had a gun to her head.
“You’re signing you’re own fucking death warrant.”
He laughed somewhat maniacally and tightened his hold on Molly again, clearly causing her pain because tears welled in her eyes. I was proud of her for not showing any signs of fear, though, and for not attempting to save herself. She’d been taught how to defend herself, but she wasn’t stupid. Her best chance was to trust me and my brothers, and she knew it.
“Why would you kill her if you love her?” Fox snapped as he stepped up beside me.
“If I can’t have her, no one can,” he replied with a shrug.
A movement out of the corner of my eye drew my attention. I frowned when I saw Dahlia—who was slightly behind Fritz and out of his line of vision—creep a few steps closer to him.
I pressed my lips together, swallowing the need to order her to stay the fuck out of this.
“I got it,” Fox murmured, then he raised his voice. “I’m gonna open the gate for you.” Slowly, he took a few steps, watching Fritz closely to see if he would let him pass.
Fritz nodded, his smug air firmly back in place. “You do that. Now, Molly and I are going to walk out to my car, nice and slow. Don’t make any sudden moves, or I’ll kill her.”
Dahlia was focused on the stalker, so she didn’t notice Fox come up behind her. His hand was over her mouth before she could make a sound, and he dragged her back to the driveway and around her car so she was shielded from the situation.
“There’s nowhere you can go that we won’t track your ass down and feed you a bullet,” Whiskey snarled from my left.
The distinctive roar of a Harley engine drowned out Fritz’s response and stole his focus. The second his eyes left me, I pulled the trigger.
The force of the bullet sent him reeling backward, and his heavy grip on Molly took her down with him. But the hand holding his pistol fell to his side, out of harm’s way.
“Molly!” My gaze swung in the direction of the newcomer, and I recognized Mac Mackenzie as he roared his daughter’s name.
I didn’t give him another thought. Molly was my only concern. Tucking my gun into the back of my pants, I ran toward her. Mac reached her first and held out his hand and helped her up.
“Don’t fucking touch her,” I growled.
I didn’t care if it was her fucking father. I was still reeling from the fear of losing the most important person in my life. The thought of anyone’s hands on her but mine sent me into a blind fury.
Molly didn’t even look at her dad. Her eyes were glued to mine, and she immediately released his hand before running the rest of the way to me and throwing herself into my arms.
