After I told my mom about the baby, she has hardly left my side. Her presence is comforting, like a warm blanket on a cold night. “You should do a DNA test,” she suggests, her voice laced with concern.
I furrow my brow, confused by her words. "What do you mean?" I inquire.
"We only know about half of your DNA. It may be beneficial to see if there are any abnormalities or potential health risks on your father's side," she explains earnestly. A sudden realization dawns on her, and she adds, "Come to think of it, I vaguely recall a strange little note that came with his sperm.” Hearing my mom say the word sperm is altogether too damn funny not to laugh.
My eyes widen in surprise, and I let out a childlike giggle at the absurdity of the situation. My mother's love and care envelop me like a warm embrace as we discuss the potential implications of this discovery.
I decide to send off my DNA as soon as possible. I need to be armed with answers. Answers that will affect my baby and her future.
Our anniversary trip to Hawaii was just what we needed. It was a chance for Eli and me to escape the chaos of our everyday lives and just focus on each other. We decided to spend the weekend there, from Thursday through Monday, which was the perfect amount of time.
The flight there was long but surprisingly smooth. Eli and I spent most of it watching movies and catching up on sleep. When we finally arrive in Hawaii, we are exhausted but excited. The warm breeze greets us as soon as we step off the plane, and the smell of saltwater fills our noses.
We check into our hotel, which is right on the beach, and immediately changed into our swimsuits. The water is crystal clear and warm, and we spend most of our first day lounging on the beach, sipping tropical drinks, and enjoying each other’s company.
The next day, we decide to do some exploring. We rent a car and drive around the island, stopping at different beaches along the way. Each one is more beautiful than the last. We even find a secluded spot where we can swim with sea turtles – something that has always been on my bucket list. We are also completely alone. We are both in awe when we finally reach the waterfall the concierge recommended. It is even more spectacular than we could have imagined— water cascading down from high above into a crystal-clear pool below. Without hesitation, we throw off our clothes and jump into the water.
The cool water felt amazing against our skin. We swim around, laughing and splashing each other without a care in the world, but when Eli pulls me close for a kiss, things quickly heat up between us.
We make love right there under the waterfall— the rush of water cascades down our bodies as we come together over and over. This has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
Afterward, we sit on the rocks by the pool, watching as the sun sets over the horizon. I rest my head on Eli’s shoulder and feel completely content as I take in the beauty around me.
Later, as we return to our hotel room, I can’t stop thinking about how lucky I was to have found someone who loves me unconditionally and accepts all of me, just as I accept him.
The next few days were spent exploring more of Hawaii— snorkeling with tropical fish, hiking through lush forests, and indulging in delicious local cuisine. But it was the moments spent with Eli that truly made this trip unforgettable.
On Saturday morning, Eli surprises me with a couples massage at a luxurious spa. It’s pure bliss, and I can’t help but feel grateful for this man who always knows how to make me feel special and desired. I know how lucky I am, trust me.
We head out for a romantic dinner at a fancy restaurant overlooking the ocean. As we watch the sunset over the water, Eli takes my hand and tells me how much he loves me– something he does every day but feels even more meaningful in this idyllic setting.
Sunday was our actual anniversary, so we decided to spend it doing nothing but relaxing on the beach and making love in the room.
On our last night in Hawaii, we sit on our balcony overlooking the ocean; I reach for him.
“I love you, wife,” he says, kissing my hand.
“I love you too, husband.”
Best anniversary ever. And making love under a waterfall? Ten out of ten, highly recommend it.
CHAPTER 6
ELI
FIVE MONTHS PREGNANT
I hold her with a desperate, panicked grip, my fingers digging into her flesh as I pound into her mercilessly. I feel like I can’t get enough of her lately. Her legs wrap tightly around my hips, pulling me deeper and deeper into her slick, pulsing core. She cries out, her nails leaving scratches down my back as we move together in a frantic rhythm.
