“I’d tell you to use mine but something is wrong with it. I’m not sure they fixed it last night but there is one right outside my door.” He points toward his double doors. “I’ll show you.” He drops his hand.
“Max. I can find the bathroom.” I laugh, stealing a quick kiss and grabbing my purse. “Take your call and then it’s your turn to feed me.” My eyes flick to his groin.
“That’s not helping.” He reaches for me. I barely dodge his grasp.
“Bathroom,” I call out as I slip from his office. I stop when I see a blonde woman sitting at the desk that Max told me was Mark’s. She turns her dark blue gaze on me. Her eyes go wide for a moment before she cools her expression.
“Hi,” I say with a small wave. “I’m Mia.” I step toward her, holding my hand out. “I’m Max’s-” I trail off because I’m not sure what to say.
“I heard what you are,” she snips, her eyes going to the doors of Max’s office. Oh God. She heard us. I’d forgot until this moment that someone had knocked. She doesn't take my hand so I drop it to my side. I know I’m turning red but I don’t know what to say or why she seems so mad at me. I can feel her anger.
“I’m sorry,” I offer. It’s the best I can think of. She’s clearly upset. Her eyes roam over me and instantly her demeanor changes. I probably look out of place in this fancy office with only my jeans and sweater on. I’m wearing what I had on last night. I reach up, running my hands through my hair that is likely a wild mess. I tried to tame it some this morning but I’m sure after the desk orgasm it is looking a mess again.
She picks up a paper from the desk, handing it to me. “What’s this?” I ask right as Max’s name catches my eye. I read on to see that it says the elusive bachelor is engaged.
“We’re engaged.” Her voice is soft now. I search for a name. It’s not as though it could even be mine. I don’t see any name. They are trying to figure out who the woman is but there is a wedding. A venue is booked in his name already.
I look up at her. She looks as though she is about to cry. “I’m sorry.” My own eyes sting. I feel like a fool. How could I have been so stupid?
“Are you why he’s been acting weird lately?” She sniffles.
“I didn't know.” I try and swallow the lump in my throat. I will not cry in front of her. She’s the one who gets to cry. They’re engaged! My eyes flick to her hand but there’s no ring on it. I’m guessing she took it off or doesn’t wear it to the office. My heart aches with the thought of what I’ve done. I’m sad but most of all I’m mad. How could Max have done this to this poor girl? Never mind what he did to me.
“It was a secret.” Her other hand covers up where a ring should sit. “To be honest, I’ve been in love with him for years. I’d finally talked him into getting married. I think he only agreed at first because of that sister of his.” She rolls her eyes. I bite my tongue, trying not to defend his sister. It’s not the time. This poor girl sitting in front me is pissed right now; it’s not about me. I slept with her fiancé. “I thought he was maybe falling for me but these past few days he’s been weird.”
“I’m so sorry,” I say again. I’m sure I sound stupid but what else can I say or do? My own heart is breaking into pieces. I am barely holding it together. I want to march into his office and smack him but she should get that right first. “What can I-”
“Leave. That’s what you can do. Never talk to him again.”
I nod, taking a step back. “I’m sorry,” I repeat, turning and half running for the elevator. I thank the elevator gods when it opens instantly. I push the button over and over, willing the doors to close. When they finally do I burst into tears.

Max
I glance at the time on my computer again. I’ve been on the phone for over thirty minutes now. Why hasn't she come back yet? My only guess is that since she’s always so bubbly and full of smiles, that people started to show up at work and she’s out there talking to everyone. I’m sure everyone is shocked that I have a woman here. They will try and suck as much gossip as they can get from her. My sweet angel might get eaten alive out there.
