No one is clear of my wrath. I almost kill a fucker who makes the mistake of calling Jenna a sweet piece of meat. I’m sitting in a boring damn meeting in LA of all places when a fucking Hollywood producer brings up Curvy Cuties.

When the stupid shit asks me if I’m banging any of the hot, chubby chicks running the magazine, I politely attempt to change the subject before I put my fist through his dumbass face. Then he goes for broke and asks me to set him up with the hot sweet piece of meat in charge.

A red haze settles over my vision, and I rush the asshole and grab him around the collar. Staring down into the much smaller man’s face, I let him know I don’t appreciate the way he’s referring to these women. Things go downhill fast, and I end up pulling out of the project.

I’m seething on the plane back to Livingston when it hits me. Before I stormed out of the meeting, I turned and warned the fucker to stay far away from my girl. At this point, I admit the truth to myself: these feelings for Jenna are real. She’s so far under my skin, I’ll never be free of her.

There’s only one thing left to do, and it pains me deeply to resort to this. As soon as the plane lands, I grab my cellphone out of my pocket and dial my mother’s number. As I’m hanging up the phone, I realize I asked my mother to set me up on a date. Fuck. The train has left the station. Now, my life truly is a joke.

The next night, I pull up in front of my parents’ large, two-story, plantation-style home and sigh. Maybe now things will get back to normal for me. My heart settles into place when I see the light blue Volkswagen Beetle parked in the drive. Asking my parents to invite the woman I’m obsessing over to dinner should embarrass me, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

After parking next to the little car, I grab the bottle of wine off my front seat and take a deep breath to calm myself. I knock and wait impatiently, knowing Jenna is inside the house. Gaston pulls the door open and smiles. “Mr. Wild, what a surprise.” The half-smirk on his face tells me that he knew of my mother’s plan.

I hand him the bottle and smile back. “It’s good to see you, Gaston.”

He takes it from me before leading me into the family room where my dad and mom are sitting on the cream-colored leather sofa. My eyes automatically find Jenna on the overstuffed chair across from them. Shock passes through her huge green eyes as she watches me walk into the room. My mother plays the part perfectly as she hops up and gasps. “Wild, I didn’t know you were going to drop by tonight.”

I blink and act confused. “I had dinner tonight on my calendar.” Leaning over, I kiss her cheek, then shake my dad’s hand as he stands up to greet me.

My mom looks over and points to my girl. “You remember my friend, Jenna Summers?”

It’s hard, but I act innocent and smile before shaking her hand. Knowing this girl was going to affect me greatly, I made sure to leave my jacket buttoned. The second our hands touch, I hear her slight gasp and realize she’s not unaffected. It gives me some small measure of comfort. While my father pours me a drink, my mother slips off to ask Gaston to set another plate for dinner.

Knowing this is my one chance to fix the horrible first impression I made on Jenna, I sit in the chair next to her and turn on the charm. She’s wearing the off-white sweater dress that shows off her delicious curves perfectly. Ignoring my intense hunger is torture, but I remind myself that now’s the time to act like a civilized man and not the Neanderthal fighting for his girl. What in the hell has Jenna done to me?

The rest of the night flies by as I struggle to conceal my intense feelings for Jenna. I’ve never shown interest in a woman before, and my parents and Gaston take great joy in making a total ass out of me throughout the evening. You know what they say, “Who needs enemies when you have family?”

When my mother breaks out my toddler photo album, I finally hit my limit and find an excuse to call it a night. As I’m getting ready to head out, I lean close to my dad and hiss in his ear, “Was it really necessary to tell her I slept with woof-woof until I was five?”

He bites back a smile and shrugs. “It makes you look more human and less intimidating.”
