“Should be plenty of room for both of us, or I can move a bed to the living room for me, and you can stay in here.”
I wave him off. “I think you, me, Emerson, and Roman could all sleep in this bed and never touch,” I joke.
“Yeah, just us in our bed, Mo.” His deep voice, along with the determined look in his eye, sends tingles down my spine.
“I agree. Em is a bed hog. Trust me, I speak from experience.”
“The closets are in the bathroom. There is a his and hers. So you should have plenty of room for all of your things.” He nods toward the bathroom.
I make my way to the door, pushing it open, and gasp. “Holy shit! Legend, that tub is massive, and its inside the shower. This is like something you’d see on that Cribs TV show. This is… wow.” I turn to look at him. “Did you design this?”
“Yeah,” he says, raising his hands and locking them behind his head. “The contractor was able to see my vision.”
“Damn. Yeah, I don’t think you have to worry about reselling once someone sees this bathroom. Is that a rain showerhead?”
“Yep. And jets all down the wall. There’s another detachable showerhead. You know, in case two people want to shower at the same time.”
I nod, pushing the thought of showering with Legend out of my mind. “Was it your idea to have the tub in the shower area too?”
“Yeah. That way, if the water sloshes over, and when you step out, you don’t have to worry about dripping all over the floor.”
“You put some thought into this.”
“A little.” He grins.
“No door. That’s genius.”
“Yeah, I didn’t want to have to clean all that glass, and I hate shower curtains. They just get nasty, and I didn’t want to deal with either.”
“This is amazing, Legend. I’m already seeing myself soaking in that tub with a book and a glass of wine.”
“Just tell me your favorite, and I’ll make sure we keep it stocked.”
“You don’t have to do that.”
He points at his chest. “You’re doing me the favor, remember? Besides, as your husband, that’ll be my job. It might not be a marriage in all the traditional ways, but I will take care of you, Monroe. Before, during, and after this is over. Always.”
There is so much conviction in his tone, I don’t bother to argue with him. I know he’s feeling like I get nothing out of this. He doesn’t understand that I want to help. It’s still new, and I’m sure once it all settles, he’ll stop worrying so much about me, and we’ll just focus on getting through the year as man and wife.
“I have to admit, it might be hard to get me to move out once I’m here. This is like a resort.” I laugh.
I hear his deep chuckle behind me. “I’m glad you like it.” I can feel him as he draws closer, and his hand rests on the small of my back. “Can you see yourself living here? With me?”
Glancing at him over my shoulder, I find that he’s closer than I thought. His lips are a breath from mine. I swallow hard and offer him what I hope is a charming, carefree smile. “You’re stuck with me, roomie.”
This close, I can smell his cologne and see every fleck in his ice-blue eyes. This man, this gorgeous, funny, talented, sexy man, is going to be my husband. I’m going to be sleeping next to him in this very room for a long while. I know what I signed up for. However, standing here in this room, the thought of what will be ours for the foreseeable future hits me.
I’m marrying Legend Raines.
He tosses his head back in laughter, and I feel the tight coil in my stomach unravel. “Come on, roomie.” He snakes his arm around my shoulders. “Let’s go watch a movie. I’ll make you some of the best popcorn you’ve ever had.”
“Oh, yeah? How long do you put it in the microwave for?”
“Two and a half minutes. The trick is to buy the movie theater butter flavor and not let the bag stop popping before you pull it out of the microwave.”
“Then you have a bunch of unpopped kernels.”
“A few, but you also don’t have a bag full of burnt popcorn.”
“You sound like you’ve tested this theory from experience?”
“A time or fifty.” He chuckles. “You want to stay, Mo?”
“Yeah, but I get to pick the movie.”
“What my wife wants, my wife gets.”
He’s teasing, but damn if hearing him say wife doesn’t get my lady bits fired up for him. I need to get myself under control. This is all for show. This is to help Legend get his inheritance. It will help all the guys of Everlasting Ink, my best friend, her brother, who is so much like my brother as well, our friends, Legend’s parents. This is the right thing to do. He shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to get an inheritance. Either they wanted him to have the money or they didn’t. It should be that simple.
