Mafia battles were theirs, as club battles were now the mafia’s.
During that time, while they were distracted, there had been movement with the Twisted Bastards MC.
Big Dick could find whoever they needed every other time, but for some reason the new leader of the club was staying quiet. Hunter didn’t like it. He preferred to look his enemies in the eye when he killed them. Any leader of the Twisted Bastards MC wouldn’t be good for them.
“Nothing,” Raven said. “It’s quiet everywhere.”
They looked around at each other and Hunter knew they were all thinking the same thing. It wasn’t good. Silence was a death sentence.
Smokey stepped back from the window and turned to look at the room. “I want to double up protection detail on everything. Our businesses, our homes, and at the club. Round-the-clock surveillance. None of you should go anywhere alone either. You double up. No excuses.”
Hunter didn’t like that. “What about the party?”
“We keep with the party. We’ve got a bunch of club brothers arriving. It’s only fair we give them a warm welcome, and the more numbers the better,” Smokey said.
He turned to Raven. “Carlos has to come here, unless you’re willing to take Ava with you.”
“I’m not leaving,” Raven said. “Carlos will be here tomorrow night.” She shrugged. “He knows what it means.”
Smokey nodded.
“Do you think we need to lockdown?” Ugly Beast asked.
“We’re not at that point just yet. I’m not going to react, because keeping us all in one place makes us an easy target.” He turned to Big Dick. “Start putting pressure on your contacts. We need to flush this fucker out.”
“Got it,” Big Dick said.
“Everyone clear?” Smokey asked.
Everyone nodded their head in agreement and Smokey was about to raise his gavel.
“No newbies!” Raven said, yelling to be heard.
“What?” Smokey asked.
“With parties, there are always newbies … rookies, fuck, what is the word—prospects. No new ones, not until Twisted makes its presence known.”
Hunter pressed his fingers together. Raven hadn’t exactly been forthcoming with any prospects of late.
Ever since she didn’t question a suspected prospect and Abriana, Ugly Beast’s wife, was taken from the club by her own family with the intent of killing her, Raven wouldn’t allow many new prospects, and she certainly didn’t make their lives easier.
There were always a lot of prospects at the club. Men thinking that club life is easy as fuck, with the free pussy and lots of cash. It was anything but.
Loyalty.
Pain.
Hard work.
Blood.
Death.
Pussy was just a welcome bonus, but again, not a guarantee.
Most prospects didn’t make it. If they showed potential, there was also a risk of dying. Club life was not easy and not one he allowed people to enter lightly.
“Anyone got a problem with that?” Smokey asked.
No one argued.
Hunter didn’t have a problem. The few prospects they had were a long way from earning their patches.
The gavel struck down, and everyone left the room. He stayed seated, fingers pressed together. Raven also stayed behind.
The door closed and Smokey turned to Raven. “I want Ava detail,” Raven said.
This didn’t surprise Hunter. Raven had turned into Ava’s personal bodyguard.
He looked toward Smokey. “You know Carlos isn’t going to agree to that.”
“And Carlos can complain about it, but he knows this is club. If Twisted are intent on making the move, then you know they’re going to attack the bakery. They rarely attack any of our other businesses, but Ava is personal.”
Smokey put his hands on his hips and looked toward her.
“You know I’m right.”
“And if it wasn’t for Carlos, you would agree,” Hunter said.
He’d feel a lot happier with Raven watching the bakery.
“How are you going to do that?” Smokey asked. “I don’t want Ava to know the shit that’s going on. She’s been through enough.”
“I hang out at the bakery and all I need to do is get Harlow to start talking. That girl can keep a brick wall talking,” Raven said.
Hunter smiled.
He knew there was a risk to Harlow’s life as well. She’d already been stabbed because of the club. Her connection through the bakery, as well as her brother, put her at risk. Big Dick’s main family was never at risk, because they didn’t have anything to do with him. He knew Big Dick visited his parents from time to time, but that was about the extent of it.
“I’ve got this, you know I do,” she said.
“Fine, but you deal with Carlos. I don’t want that prick irritating me.”
Raven nodded, got to her feet, and left.
“Do you think you should allow her to take care of Ava?” Hunter asked.
“Yes,” Smokey said. “She is more than capable. You know it as well as I do.”
Hunter had no doubt, but Raven also came with her new mafia problems.
“Carlos is going to be a pain in the ass.”
“I know, and Raven thinks she can handle him.” Smokey collapsed into the chair, leaning back. “Why are you still here?”
