“I’ll have a water, and she will have . . .” Carter says, looking at me. “She will have the same.” He doesn’t even look at her. She nods and walks away. “Do you have a cat?”

“What?” I ask him and feel the plane moving. I raise the shades beside me to see that we are going down the runway.

“Prepare for takeoff,” the captain says into the speaker.

“So do you have a cat?” he asks me again.

“No,” I answer him. “Why?”

“Do you have a dog?” he asks, and I sit back in the chair as the plane takes off.

“No,” I tell him. “This is so weird.”

“What about plants?” he asks me, and I just shake my head. “Perfect. No reason for you to go home tonight.” I look at him. “Spend the weekend with me at the beach.”

“Carter,” I say and stop talking when Keira comes back with a silver tray and two glasses of water. “Thank you,” he says to her, grabbing his water and drinking it.

“Lunch will be served in ten minutes,” she says and turns away.

“I have all my stuff to wash and put away, plus I have to grab the dress for tomorrow,” I tell him.

“I have a washer and a dryer.” He smiles at me. “We can pick up your dress on the way to my house.”

“I don’t know,” I answer honestly. “What if someone catches us? I mean, in Montana it was normal for us to go home together, but it’s another story if I spend the weekend with you there. There’s a lot riding on your celibacy, you know.”

“You’re worried the paps are going to catch us?” he asks me, and I’m annoyed that he knows me. “I’ll drive the car into the garage, and no one will see us. We can spend the time in bed.” He winks at me, and I stop talking when Keira comes back and places a tray of food in the middle of the table. Then she places a plate in front of me and then totally leans over to place it in front of Carter. She turns her face so she is face-to-face with him, and I literally have to lean away as her ass is now in my face. I unclip my seat belt, which makes Carter’s eyes go big. “I’m sorry, you are making me really uncomfortable.” She looks shocked. “If you could please step away.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything by it,” she says and turns back to run to the back of the plane.

“Were you going to hit her?” he asks, leaning in.

“Are you insane? I was going to go to the bathroom and throw up,” I answer him, and he laughs loudly. “That’s funny?”

“You’re jealous,” he says, and I shake my head, ignoring him, but when he continues laughing, I just glare at him. “Come sit with me,” he says softly. We grab the plates from the table and go eat on the couch. By the time we land, I think we’ve only seen Keira twice more. Getting into the car, he heads to my condo where he parks, then walks in with me. “This is nice,” he says of the apartment, and I nod at him. “Go pack a bag.” I walk into my bedroom, and he follows me, sitting on the bed while I grab some things for his house. I grab the two dresses hanging in the covered black bag and the matching shoes that go with them.

“If at any time it isn’t safe, I want you to promise me you will bring me back home,” I tell him from the closet.

“Baby, I promise you that no one will know,” he tells me, and when I walk to him, he opens his legs, so I stand in the middle of them and his hands go to my ass. “I promise you.”

“Fine, it’s just it’s both our asses on the line,” I say, turning around and locking up my house once again.

“Are you almost done?” I hear him knock on the closed door. Spending the night in the house with him last night was amazing. We sat outside listening to the waves while we talked about everything. We then came inside and fell asleep in each other’s arms, and I woke with his face between my legs. Of course, once fully awake, I returned the favor. “Erin.” I look up while I tie the strap around my ankle.

I get up from the bed and take one last look at myself in the mirror. I snuck off to the guest room to get ready. My hair is loose, and I added some waves. My makeup is natural with just some black mascara. The light gold eyeshadow with a light bronze liner make my blue eyes pop. The light pink on my lips makes them just a touch more plump. I take a deep breath and smooth down the sleeveless gown. And what a gown it is. It has a rounded neck and rose gold sequins that goes to a burgundy ombre at the bottom. It fits me like a glove with the bottom going just a touch looser so it sashays as I walk.
