“Think of what?” She stared at him, waiting. She couldn’t believe her mother had walked in on them having sex. This had to be one of the worst things that ever happened to her. “I wasn’t with her that day. I picked her up with the intention of it being more. I was bored.”
“What will happen if you grow bored with me, huh? What then? I don’t…” She stopped talking and pulled on her arms. He didn’t let her go. “You have got to stop this.”
“How about this, we have a trial run?”
She couldn’t believe he was really pushing this. It wasn’t like him at all.
She ran fingers through her hair. “A trial run?”
“Yes. We can use the planning of our wedding for a trial run. We can have rules to follow, and if at any time you want to end it, we do. It means we don’t have to sneak around.”
“But the world will know we’re engaged.”
“They already believe it, Danielle. Come on, it’ll be fun. I’ll even be with you when you go do the guest appearances. I’ll be your plus one. There is a benefit to all of this. You just got to realize it.”
She pulled away from his touch and stepped back. Going to the fridge, she opened the door and checked out the bottle of wine she had cooling. It would be so easy to just drink away her worries, but that was what got her here. If she’d not had a drink, she wouldn’t be contemplating a marriage with Brice.
“Where’s my mom?”
“She took a phone call. She’s out in the garden.”
She went to check and indeed saw her mother chatting away on the phone.
“Okay, rules,” she said.
“You’re going to give this a trial run.”
“I can’t think of a single reason why we shouldn’t do this. If we don’t, I only see my mother nagging at me and I imagine your parents are the same.”
“Totally the same.”
She couldn’t believe that fun sex had turned into this.
Running fingers through her damp hair, she nibbled her lip as she thought about it. “We can’t cheat.”
“It’s not going to happen. We’re both exclusive, no one else.”
“You don’t mind that?”
“Of course, I don’t mind that. I love that we’re committing to each other.”
She grabbed a bottle of water, handing him one as they faced each other across the counter. He uncapped the lid and took a long drink. She watched him, finding each action he did incredibly sexy.
She really needed to get some perspective on this.
“So, no cheating, that’s the first one,” she said.
“You cannot hold sex against me.”
“What do you mean?”

“Good one. I like it. We’re a team. Even though we’re in a trial stage, we must continue to organize our wedding, but we’re the ones that get to set a date and we can hold off until we’re ready.”
“Good one. No kissing and telling. What is between us, stays between us.”
“Already there. I think you’re the one that told Haley though.”
She rolled her eyes. “Look, I was freaked out, and I apologize. If it makes you feel any better, it was the best sex of my life.”
