My heart flutters. Now that we’ve fulfilled our feral side, I welcome his sweet side. Closing my eyes, I drop my head back, and I let all the glorious emotions rush through me.
“Hanna?” Theo calls me.
“What?” I smile without opening my eyes.
“Hanna?” he asks again but more persistently. I laugh, thinking he’s just playing some silly game.
“What!”
“Hanna!” His voice is loud, but more muffled somehow, and I finally open my eyes.
Looking down in front of me, my hand is moving in circles in the soapy dishwater, cleaning the plates. I look up and see my face reflected in the window of my kitchen.
Shaking my head, I have to do a double take. I’m not in the car with Theo, and it’s just barely dusk outside. Realizing I must have gone into a haze, I remember what I was doing.
Theo calls me again. “Puppet? Are you okay?” Suddenly, he’s next to me, and I nod.
“Um, yeah. I’m okay. I just got lost in thought. Theo…” I turn and look at him. “I want to try something tomorrow. For Halloween, your sister agreed to keep the kids.”
He mulls it over but then smiles cautiously. “What do you have in mind, puppet?”
I give him a wicked grin. “It will be a surprise. You drive us, and I already got our costumes.”
