“I’d say don’t do anything stupid, but I know there’s no point,” Owen says, leaning on the boards.

“Exactly,” I agree as I go through the door and skate toward her and the dumbass. I watch as Tennessee brings her lip between her teeth, and crazy prickles run along my body. Her eyes darken, the one on the right a thundercloud, while the one on the left has gone to stone, an emerald.

Man, I should have kissed her yesterday, because now, my lips ache for hers.

I come to stop before them, and my eyes don’t leave hers. Her breath quickens as she swallows hard, her throat working and calling out to me to grasp it so I can feel that pulse going crazy under my fingertips. Neither of us says anything, and I feel his eyes on me.

“Tennessee?”

She whips her gaze to his, and mine follows. On my skates, I tower over him, and he has to look up at me. But I’ll give it to him… He doesn’t cower away. He stands tall, his shoulders back, his eyes dark with vehemence, but he has nothing on me. I move my heated gaze to her, and she takes a deep breath.

“D’Artagnan, come over here, please. And Troy, will you make sure he’s in the shot?”

Neither of us answers her; we just move. I follow her to where she wants me, and when she looks up at me, her eyes are pleading. “Please behave.”

I chuckle at that. “There is no behaving around you, baby doll,” I say softly to her, and her eyes go from pleading for me to behave to begging me not to.

Or maybe I’m believing what I want.

“Lordy me, you’re gonna be the death of me,” she mutters, that twang doing things to my soul as she sets me with a pointed look. I just grin. “I need a wrister, a slap shot, and just your regular shot. Act as if I’m not here.”

“That’s not possible,” I tell her, and she whimpers in response. All I can do is chuckle as she walks away.

When she tells me to go, I do as she asks, and she captures four takes of each shot. “Okay, one second.”

I take a puck, bouncing it on my blade and showing off because I can. I toss the puck up and then smack it into the back of the net with ease. From the bench, Owen yells, “Show-off!”

I snort at that as I skate toward where Tennessee is, and I notice that Jackass is watching me, a glare in his eyes and a tic in his jaw. I stand beside her as she watches the video, unaware of how stupid the dude beside her looks. I lean on my stick, putting my chin on the top of my glove with absolutely no intention but to piss him off with how close I am to her. I can feel the heat coming off her, see the blush creeping up her neck as I stand there. I watch as she presses some buttons, and I enjoy the look on her face. Two little lines sit between her brows as she watches the footage.

“Okay, good,” she mutters as she pauses and then moves through the footage again. She nods and looks up at me. “I got it.”

My gaze falls to her lips, and they part, wanting me. Goddamn, I love how responsive her body is to mine. “Do you need me…” I say, slowly and with purpose, “for anything else?”

Her eyes widen with desire and a touch of annoyance.

Before she can say anything, Dumbass speaks to me. “Hey, bro—”

“Not your bro,” I say, cutting my eyes to his, and he presses his lips together, the tic in his jaw a warning that I’m fucking with him in all the ways I want.

“D’Artagnan, please,” she mutters, but Come-Dumpster is speaking.

“Fine, Miklas.” He says my name like it’s a curse. Which I guess it is, because what he thinks is his is actually mine. “I don’t know if you are aware, but Tennessee and I are involved.”

“Do I need to call Angie?” Owen calls out, but I ignore him, my lips quirking at the side as I exhale. “I’m calling.”

“D’Artagnan,” she warns, but once more, I ignore her.

“Involved, eh?” I ask, and Fuckface puffs up his chest. “What was your name? Troy?” He doesn’t answer me; he just glares. “Troy, bro,” I drawl. “We aren’t the same.” I stand to my full height, towering over him as the fury courses through my body. I feel her hand come to my chest, and I shudder at her touch. “You may be involved with her, but her heart is mine—and only mine.”

Her fingers clutch my jersey, and the way his eyes narrow when she does so pleases me way more than it should. I drop my glove and take her hand in mine. I drag my gaze to hers, and she’s begging me with those eyes. I bring her hand to my lips, kissing her knuckles before I kiss her palm, and everything around me falls away.
