“I will,” she said with a sweet smile.

At least she was smiling now and not on the verge of tears any longer. I’d take that as a win.

Timberlynn snuggled against me on the sofa as we silently watched the fire flicker in the fireplace.

“That was the best BLT I think I’ve ever had,” she mused.

With a laugh, I kissed her on the head. “Flattery will get you everywhere, Ms. Holden.”

Her laugh vibrated against me. I looked down and saw the oversized T-shirt she had on. It was an old one of mine that I had left here at some point in the past when I stayed in the cabin. It wasn’t unusual for me, Brock, and Ty to spend a few days here, especially during the spring and summer. Crystal Lake held a lot of memories for all three of us.

“How’s your ankle?” I asked.

“Better. I think the hot shower and the aspirin really helped.”

“Good, I’m glad it’s feeling better.”

She looked up at me and smiled and it felt like I forgot how to breathe for a moment. God, she truly was the most beautiful woman I had ever laid my eyes on.

I had to work at swallowing before I could make myself say anything. “You are…so beautiful.”

Her cheeks turned bright pink. “I look like a mess.”

I shook my head. “No, you’re perfect.”

She shyly looked back at the fire.

“I saw some ice cream in the refrigerator if you want dessert.”

Slowly, she moved away from where she was sitting next to me and stood. She reached for me and I joined her. We faced each other and Timberlynn gave me the sexiest smile I’d ever seen. “I’d like dessert, but not the kind you eat.”

My damn knees nearly buckled under me. “Timber, are you sure?”

The way her eyes sparkled, turning dark with desire, told me everything she couldn’t seem to say. I cupped her face in my hands and stared into those beautiful eyes of hers. They looked so green, reminding me of the pastures here on the ranch in spring. The gold specks could be flowers sprinkled around the land.

“I’d be content to simply hold you in my arms tonight if that was all you wanted from me,” I said.

Her tongue came out and swept quickly across her dry lips. “I want you, Tanner. I almost feel like I could cry if I don’t feel you touch me soon. We’re finally alone,” she said with a shy chuckle. “I…I need to feel you touch me.”

I closed my eyes and let out a low, guttural growl. Slow. You need to go slow. Feelings of excitement and regret for wanting her so badly mixed together and left me feeling confused.

“Tanner?”

Her voice made me snap my eyes open.

She stepped closer and took the bottom of my shirt in her hands. She lifted it slowly as I reached behind my back and assisted her in getting it over my head. Her eyes drank in my upper body, and I loved seeing the lust written clearly on her face. I knew I had a nice body, hell, I worked hard for my muscular frame, and the fact that she enjoyed seeing it like this only made me want her to see more of my body. Timberlynn wasn’t one for hiding her emotions, at least not when it came to me. She seemed to wear them so visibly on her face. In her eyes. The way she chewed on her lip or let her gaze roam freely over my body. I loved how she looked at me.

“You’re incredible,” she whispered as she placed her palm on my chest over my heart. Her eyes lifted to mine. “Your heart, it’s beating so fast.”

All I could do was nod. She smiled and the room felt like it moved under my feet. I had to concentrate on not stumbling, and I reached out for her to hold me up. I’d never experienced this feeling before when I was with a woman. I knew I never would again. “I feel like this is my first time,” I said honestly.

She shyly looked down. “You know I’m not a virgin, but I don’t have a lot of experience. It wasn’t because of lack of interest on my end.” A small, nervous laugh slipped from her lips. “I’m honestly terrified of you being bored.”

I placed my finger on her chin and bent down to look into her eyes. “I can promise you right now, I’m not going to be bored. And if something doesn’t feel right, or you’re not comfortable, you’ll tell me, right?”

She nodded. “I promise I’ll tell you.”

I lifted the T-shirt and gently pulled it over her head. She wasn’t wearing a bra, so her breasts were the first thing I saw. I suddenly forgot how to speak. “I…um…can’t…think,” I stammered.

Timberlynn placed her finger on my chin and closed my mouth as she let out a giggle. “They’re only breasts, Tanner.”
