Had there ever been a summer night more magical than this? This short three-minute commute from work to home with JT Wellbridge singing and dancing for me? I wasn’t sure. I wanted to capture it like lightning bugs in a bottle the way Alden and Georgia and I used to do for McLean.

When we stumbled into the house and closed the door behind us, JT pulled me into an embrace and kissed me before I could give him hell for his horrible singing voice.

It took half a second before I’d forgotten about anything other than his lips on mine and the sharp press of his beard on my chin and neck. His hands grabbed my ass and kneaded it.

“Fuck, I missed you,” he groaned. “Needed this. Needed you.”

With JT’s hands all over me and the pressure of his hard dick against my hip, I got a second wind, too. I pulled off his tie and began unbuttoning his shirt. “You wear a suit well, Rainmaker,” I teased, dropping kisses at the base of his throat as I uncovered the skin there.

“Don’t call me that,” he grumbled. “Isn’t there something better you could be doing with your mouth than teasing me?”

“Never,” I said with a laugh. My phone buzzed in my pocket, but I ignored it. “Teasing you is one of my favorite things to do.”

“I smell like an airplane,” he said as I nuzzled into the center of his newly bared chest. I loved that spot on him.

“Maybe a little but not for long.”

My phone stopped buzzing and started up again. JT sighed and stepped back. “See who’s lighting you up. I’m going to take a quick shower.”

I groaned and reached for the phone. “I fucking hate being a business owner sometimes.”

It was Dan.

“Hey, man, sorry to do this, but Cas got sick and had to go home. We’re slammed over here. I tried everyone else, but no luck.”

I glanced at the open door to the bathroom, where JT had just exposed his bare white ass. I wanted to eat it. I did not want to work a Friday night shift in a very busy tavern.

“Fuck.”

“I’m sorry,” he said, sounding sincere. “I even called Alden to see if he’d come in, but he’s up in Bar Harbor helping out at a client’s wedding this weekend.”

“Yeah, fine. Not your fault. Be there in five.” I hung up and called Castor.

“I’m so sorry, Flynn,” he answered in a rough voice. “My stomach is a mess. I had some sketchy leftovers for lunch, I think.”

“Oh, hon. I’m sorry. Do you need anything? JT is here and can bring you anything you need. Saltines or Gatorade?”

“God, no. No, thanks. I have some stuff here, but I’m a long way away from being able to stomach anything. I think I’m just going to rest.”

I ran a hand through my hair and looked around, wondering if JT would want to hang out here and wait for me or if he’d choose to head to his parents’ house instead. “Well, just call or text if you need anything, and take it easy.”

“Sorry again, Flynn. I know you wanted to spend some time with JT tonight.”

“It’s fine. Don’t worry about it. Shit happens, okay?”

When I ended the call, JT was done with his quick shower, and he appeared in the doorway in nothing but a towel. I gritted my teeth and tried not to scream in frustration.

“What’s going on?” he asked, using another towel to dry his hair. His chest dripped with water, and his muscles flexed as he moved. My dick started crying out in protest.

“I have to work tonight. Cas is sick, and no one else can cover for him.”

“Shit, babe. Is he okay? Does he need me to do anything?”

I walked over and wrapped my arms around JT, tucking my face into his clean neck for just a second of comfort. “No, but thank you. I’m sorry about this.”

JT squeezed me and then stepped back. “It’s okay. I have some work I can finish. I ducked out early and didn’t get everything done I was supposed to. It’s fine.”

I met his eyes. “Are you… can you…?” I looked around the tiny house as if my dignity was anywhere nearby.

“Spit it out, Firecracker.”

“Do you want to work here? Or… or you can work in my office at the Tavern if you want? I mean… unless you wanted to head back to your parents’ house, which is totally fine. Better, probably. Less distracting.” I bit my lip to shut myself up.

Suddenly, JT’s lips tightened like he was holding back a grin. “You’re not getting rid of me that easily, Honeycutt. I’m staying here. I don’t care how late you come home, I’ll be naked and ready.”

I blew out a breath and ducked my head. “Yeah, good. Okay. Yeah.”
