“I called my brothers and asked if they’d be there.”
“Do you want me to come?”
I shrugged. “I don’t know.”
“Well, if you ask me, I think it would look better if I was there with you. We’re partners in this, right?”
Nodding, I tried not to cry, but my emotions were all over the place lately, and a tear slipped free. A pained look appeared on Reece’s face.
“Please don’t cry. I hate when you cry.”
I drew in a deep breath and blew it out. “I think I would really like it if you came.”
He smiled, and I couldn’t help but smile back. Goodness, that was what got us into this situation. Reece was beyond handsome. He was just under six feet and built with muscles that seemed to have their own muscles. Dimples appeared when he gave you his megawatt smile. Topping off the good looks, he had brown hair and light brown eyes that had gold sunbursts.
“Let me get changed and we’ll head out.”
All I could do was nod and wrap my arms around me. The idea of telling my parents I was pregnant made me feel sick to my stomach.
The entire drive to my parents’ house outside of Boston was silent. I loved that Reece didn’t need to have endless talking to fill the silence. He seemed to always know what I needed. I had moved in with him right after Christmas into his two-bedroom condo. Another thing my parents didn’t know about. I dropped my head against the seat and sighed.
Reece reached for my hand and squeezed it. I instantly felt calmer.
“Thank you for coming,” I softly said, turning my head to look at him.
He winked at me as he said, “You’re welcome.”
“Don’t worry, my brothers will keep my father from killing you.”
His head jerked to look at me, a worried expression on his handsome face. “What?” he asked before he focused back on the road.
Laughing, I said, “I’m kidding. I’m not really worried about my dad. It’s Mom who has me worried.”
“It’s going to be fine. Trust me.”
I scoffed. “You don’t know my mother.”
Reece had typed in my parents’ address, and his phone was telling him his destination was on the right. He turned into the driveaway and said, “Here we go!”
After parking, Reece got out and made his way around to my door. He opened it and reached for my hand.
“Be careful, it’s a bit slippery.”
I smiled. “I will be.”
Reece was beyond overprotective from the moment he heard I was pregnant. After our first sonogram, it really hit him that he was going to be a father. From that point on, he read every book he could get his hands on about pregnancy. He bought a new bed, the kind that you can adjust to a sitting position or elevate the feet in case I needed to sleep sitting up because he read somewhere it would be better for me. He made sure all my favorite things were stocked in the fridge, and even stopped drinking alcohol because I couldn’t have any.
The door flew open when we started up the front porch steps, and my mother appeared. “Angie! You brought a date!”
Before I even had a chance to say Reece wasn’t a date, my mother grabbed his hand and nearly dragged him into the house.
“That’s Reece, Mom!” I called. “Reece, my mother…Jennifer the lunatic!”
“I heard that!” she called over her shoulder.
Wes met me at the door and helped me get out of my coat. I shoved my gloves and hat into the pocket.
“How are you feeling?” he asked in a lowered voice.
“Good. I haven’t really had any morning sickness, but I am feeling a bit nauseous right now.”
Wes chuckled. “Come on. You need to save Reece before Mom asks him anymore questions.”
I walked into the living room and Preston was shaking Reece’s hand.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you all,” Reece stated. “Angie has told me a lot about everyone.”
My mother beamed as I rolled my eyes.
“Well, dinner is ready. We were just waiting on Angie,” Mom said with a smile in my direction.
“Yeah,” I directed at her. “Sorry we were late. That was my fault.”
We were soon all seated around the table, and Presley was sitting next to Reece. She promptly handed him a piece of paper and some crayons. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched him draw a horse as Presley watched intently.
“Angie tells me that you own an Irish pub, Preston,” Reece stated as he looked up and across the table to my brother.
“I do. You should have her bring you by sometime.”
Reece smiled. “I’d like that.”
“Reece, are you in school also?” my mother asked.
“No, I graduated a year ago.”
Dad cleared his throat. “What do you do?”
“I’m a financial solutions advisor.”
“You and Wes will get along,” Finn said with a wide grin.
Reece and Wes exchanged looks. No one knew they had already met a few weeks ago when Wes invited us over for dinner. They had hit it off, and soon started talking about stocks and bonds and math shit.
