As I look up at her, her eyelids closed, her dark lashes fanning across her cheeks, her lips slightly parted and swollen, and her body flushed gorgeous pink, I wonder if I’ve ever seen anything more beautiful.

Her hair bounces around her shoulders, the soft waves hugging her flesh.

No, I haven’t ever seen anything more beautiful.

And I’ve had my share of women. My share of beautiful women.

Maddie Pike is in a league of her own.

Is it because I like her? Because I’ve actually spent time with her rather than just having the primary goal of fucking her?

Maybe. All I know is whatever this thing is that’s blooming between us, I want to see where it goes.

God, I never imagined myself settling down anytime in the near future. But Donny fell, and then Brock…

I was the lone Rake-a-teer, picking up women left and right. Hell, I fucked a couple of women I met at a bar the day before I came here.

That’s all a blur. It meant absolutely nothing. Sure, I got my rocks off, but it didn’t give me the satisfaction I was looking for.

Fucking Maddie Pike gives me all kinds of satisfaction.

All kinds of satisfaction I never knew existed.

She slides one hand between her legs, fingers her clit, and—

“My God, Dave! So good!”

She clamps around my cock, and though I want to wait, want to love her the way she deserves, like we did last night, I can’t help myself.

My balls scrunch up, and I explode inside her sweet heat.

I grunt, groan, grit out her name.

And when our orgasms finally subside, she falls onto my chest, her body fitting against me as if we’re two interlocking pieces.

And we fall asleep that way.

I wake the next morning to the buzzing of my phone. Maddie’s limbs are entangled with mine, and I realize it’s not yet light out.

Where the hell is my phone?

In the pocket of my pants, which could be anywhere. We undressed in a jumble last night.

I follow the buzzing sound and find my phone. It’s nearly on the last legs of its battery.

It’s my father.

“Dad?”

“Hey, son. I realize it’s early there yet, but this is important.”

“What time is it there?”

“Ten p.m. We’ve got an issue, Dave, and I need you…”

“You need me to what?”

He sighs. “God, I hate to do this to you. You need this trip. God knows we all need one. But this is serious, Dave.”

“What is it, Dad?”

He pauses. “I need you to come home.”

I drop my jaw. “Why?”

“I can’t tell you anything more over the phone,” he says. “Please just trust me on this. Dale, Ashley, Donny, and Callie are already on their way home from London, with Dragon Locke in tow. He’s going to rehab in Denver, but the four of them are coming straight home after they drop him off. This is serious.”

“What about Brianna?”

“She doesn’t deal with the business side of our ranch. Uncle Talon and Aunt Jade decided not to ask her to come home, and Donny and Dale agreed with them. That’s their call, Dave, but Brock is coming. Uncle Joe just talked to him. He hates leaving Rory, but he understands the seriousness of what’s going on.”

“How can he understand the seriousness if Uncle Joe didn’t tell him?”

“He trusts his father, and I hope you’ll trust me.”

“Yeah, Dad, of course I trust you.” I look at Maddie, still sleeping on the bed.

It’s going to kill me to leave her.

I had to go and develop feelings for a woman.

But she’s a woman I’ll see again. Maddie won’t be in Europe forever. Only until the end of the tour.

“All right,” I say. “I’ll get on the next flight.”

“I’ve already got a reservation for you. You and Brock leave Charles de Gaulle tonight at five p.m. your time.”

“Okay.”

At least that gives me the day to spend with Maddie. I won’t be here to see tonight’s concert, but I saw the one in London. It’ll be the same concert anyway.

I finally look at my phone for the first time. Four a.m. That’s a little over twelve hours to gather the courage to step on a plane again.

At least I can go back to bed, maybe make love to Maddie one more time.

She’ll be back in a few months when the tour is over.

“All right, Dad,” I say. “I guess I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Thanks, son. Honestly, I hate to do this to you, but we need everybody involved.”

“Everyone except Brianna?”

“We’re going to let her sit this one out if she wants to. She and Jesse just got engaged, and they need to be together.”

“Have you told her?”

“I’m leaving that to Brock. She can call Uncle Talon and Aunt Jade if she wants more information.”

“You know she’s going to insist on coming home.”

“She may. And that’s her call.”

“I’m guessing she’ll be on that flight with us tonight.”
